Roy Keane mocks Amorim

The former Manchester United captain mocked manager Ruben Amorim's explanation following the Red Devils' defeat to Grimsby in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Ruben Amorim defended his tactical system against criticism.

On Sky Sports , Keane sarcastically stated: “System? Formation? Against Grimsby? Don’t make me laugh. That game should have just been an advanced training session. In the past, people like Ji (Park Ji-Sung), who didn’t need Sir Alex whispering in their ears to know how to beat opponents working in factories, would be back at work on Monday mornings.”

According to The Guardian , most of Grimsby's players had to take on other factory jobs to make ends meet, due to the meager wages from football. Therefore, Keane implied that a match against a lower-league team like Grimsby should have been an easy victory for Manchester United.

Earlier, in his post-match press conference, coach Ruben Amorim debated with reporters about his tactical system against Grimsby. He stated: “The loss to Grimsby wasn’t due to a problem with the system (three central defenders). Against Arsenal, we played very well with this formation. This system still works well.”

Contrary to Amorim's argument, Roy Keane believes that when facing Grimsby, Manchester United could even win "without any tactics" from the manager. The former MU captain argues that there is too great a difference in quality between the two teams.

Grimsby is a League Two (fourth tier) team, with a total squad value of only £3.1 million, while MU's is worth £769 million.
