The Gifted Class is an activity organized annually by the District Cultural - Radio - Television Center in the summer (from 2010 to present) to create a useful playground for teenagers and children who are children of officials, civil servants and public employees working at agencies, departments, branches and organizations in the district. After 13 years of maintenance, more than 1,000 teenagers and children in the district have participated. Many of them have achieved high results in sports competitions organized by the district, province and the Department ofEducation and Training.
After many years of maintenance, the classes are organized systematically, the lesson plans for each subject are meticulously and detailedly built; the team of coaches are officials and civil servants of the center, graduated from the school of physical education and sports , regularly gain experience, receive professional training, and always strictly follow the curriculum and teaching schedule.
In 2023, the gifted class will have nearly 50 teenagers and children from 9 to 15 years old in the district participating with study time from June 8 to July 13, starting from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. from Monday to Friday.
Summer is a time that Nguyen Vu Ha An, 9 years old, especially enjoys. In addition to having fun with friends and participating in summer activities where he lives, he also registered to join a badminton talent class at the District Cultural - Radio - Television Center. This is the third consecutive year that An has joined the talent class at the center. Up to now, An has been able to master the basic techniques of badminton. Having just finished a round with his friends, An excitedly said: I am very happy to join the class, every day I look forward to class time to practice badminton with my friends, not only to improve my health but also through this I can get to know friends of the same age who are passionate about badminton like me.
Although he has only started studying for 10 days, Hoang Huy Khanh, 9 years old, has already mastered the basic techniques of badminton. Khanh shared: “After being taught the basic techniques by the coaches, I can now hit the shuttlecock and practice with my friends. Participating in the class helps me develop my talents and have a useful playground with my friends during the summer.”
During the badminton learning process, the children are taught basic knowledge and techniques by the coach such as holding the racket, getting familiar with the shuttlecock, moving, hitting the shuttlecock low with the left and right hands, hitting the shuttlecock low with the underhand hand, hitting the shuttlecock high and deep in the two back corners of the court and smashing the shuttlecock. Older children practice these skills in training and competition.
Besides badminton, chess is also one of the sports that teenagers and children in the district love to practice during the summer. Here, children are instructed on chess pieces and moves; after knowing how to play, they will compete and be taught how to solve more difficult chess problems. Enthusiastically finding ways to solve difficult chess problems, Lo Van Luan, 15 years old, shared: Chess is my favorite sport because it helps me practice concentration, stay calm, train my brain, the ability to evaluate and analyze situations, and promote creativity. Teachers guide me on how to concentrate, carefully observe each move and how to solve difficult chess problems; in addition, I also practice badminton to improve my health.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thuan, Director of the Center, said: In previous years, the number of children and teenagers participating in the class was large, each class had 70 - 80 students, due to the addition of dance and the expansion of the student population to include children of commune officials. However, the large number was difficult to manage, the facilities and coaching staff were not enough, so in the 2023 gifted class, the Center only taught badminton and chess and limited the number of students to ensure the quality of teaching and learning. In the coming time, we will continue to train teachers and coaches and build training programs to meet the learning needs of the children. Over the past 13 years, many talented sports people have grown up from the Center's gifted class.
The gifted class organized annually by the Dien Bien District Cultural - Radio - Television Center is a favorable condition for children to develop their talents and strengths as well as comprehensively develop their morality - intelligence - physical fitness - aesthetics; so that they can have a true summer, not feel bored, not abuse, depend too much on technological devices such as televisions and phones. At the same time, find new, talented factors to nurture and contribute to the development of the district's mass sports movement.
