Having spent more than half his life navigating the business world, at the age of 60, Mr. Le Manh Quy (village 5, Quang Minh commune, Hai Ha district) considered retiring to enjoy a peaceful life in the countryside. However, his connection with the golden camellia tea plant has lasted until now... Mr. Quy said: "I started with the golden camellia tea plant as a game. Later, after many years of dedication, I realized this is the most serious, arduous, and expensive business project of my life."
With his financial means and love for flowers and ornamental plants, in the 2000s, Mr. Quy and his fellow flower enthusiasts regularly searched for various plants and flowers in natural forests. During this process, he paid particular attention to the golden camellia. Through diligent research on the golden camellia, Mr. Le Quy gradually learned about its beauty and medicinal properties. It is a valuable medicinal plant that helps lower cholesterol, reduce cardiovascular diseases, stabilize blood pressure, reduce the risk of stroke, support blood sugar reduction in people with diabetes, help stabilize blood sugar and reduce complications, help cool the body, detoxify the liver, and treat liver diseases...
With the shrewdness of someone experienced in the business world, over the next 10 years, Mr. Quy gradually approached and mastered the techniques of planting, caring for, processing, branding, and trading golden flower tea products. His golden flower tea garden gradually expanded to 4 hectares, with nearly 10,000 trees, most of which were mature.
Mastering the process of growing and caring for golden camellia plants has cost Mr. Quy a great deal of money and immense effort. Many of his golden camellia plants have died due to incompatible grafting, poor adaptation from nursery pots to the ground, stunted growth in the garden, and failure to flower or produce leaves upon reaching maturity… This means significant financial losses.
Mr. Quy shared: "The golden camellia plant needs moisture, but not waterlogging. It's an understory plant but needs sunlight, and it has very poor tolerance for drought and heat… Therefore, growing them is both easy and difficult."
In 2014, Mr. Quy established Quy Hoa Trading, Service and Import-Export Company Limited with the goal of focusing on developing golden camellia tea plants and processed products from golden camellia tea. He cultivates golden camellia tea plants organically to obtain large flowers, plump leaves, and very high food safety standards; harvesting is done by hand when the flowers are just beginning to bloom, with little or no flower stalks, ensuring the highest concentration of the flower's essence; drying the flowers using freeze-drying technology preserves up to 99% of the natural essence and 97% of the shape, indistinguishable from fresh flowers on the branch. The packaged products have QR codes and brand logos…
He also sells seedlings and establishes production partnerships, guaranteeing the purchase of products from many golden camellia tea gardens, with nearly 10 hectares of land in Hai Ha alone. From these gardens, Mr. Quy harvests about 1 ton of dried golden camellia flowers and leaves each year. He processes this raw material into 10 different products, which are very popular and widely consumed in the market, generating nearly 10 billion VND in revenue per year, with a profit margin of 30%.
In 2022, Quy Hoa golden flower tea was awarded a 5-star rating by the Central OCOP Product Evaluation and Classification Council. This motivated Mr. Le Manh Quy to plan the export of golden flower tea to foreign markets, including demanding ones.
