With the new version of "The Old Man of the Lottery Troupe," the World Youth Theatre has presented a fresh, more intimate perspective on the lives and emotions of people in the Mekong Delta countryside. There, a lottery troupe regularly performs to entertain the people, providing shelter for those who are abandoned, lacking affection, unfortunate, and without the sympathy of others.

Following the traveling lottery troupe is Mr. Hai Lan (played by Quang Tuan), who lives in Xeo La. Day and night, Mr. Hai Lan travels with the troupe, hoping only to find his wife's daughter, Tham (played by Kha Nhu), who has been lost for many years. The search is fraught with hardship and difficulty; he even faces accusations of being a stepfather who hates his wife's daughter and has allegedly caused her death. All his sweat, tears, thoughts, and feelings are poured into every lyric of his songs and the sign he wears around his neck, searching for his daughter.

But as Thắm grew older, she quickly changed her name, choosing the beautiful name Mỹ Ngọc, hoping to leave her impoverished past behind and marry a wealthy businessman. To deny her past, Thắm hired someone to impersonate her in order to reunite with her stepfather, hoping to make him stop his years of searching for his daughter…

The play "The Old Man of the Lottery Troupe," written and directed by Bui Quoc Bao, incorporates numerous plot details, characters, and psychological conflicts to realistically and intimately reflect the thoughts and feelings of people in modern society, especially in family relationships, romantic love, and friendship. Furthermore, the play cleverly integrates popular new entertainment trends, bringing the story closer to today's younger audience.
