In an effort to campaign for re-election, former President Donald Trump held a rally at Butler Farm Show Grounds in Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon (July 13th, US time).
According to the U.S. Secret Service, the gunman fired multiple shots from an "elevated position" outside the rally. Law enforcement sources told CNN that the gunman was on the roof of a building just outside the rally site.

Mr. Trump sustained only minor injuries in the assassination attempt. The gunman was killed by Secret Service agents, and at least one audience member was killed.
At a press conference, Kevin Rojek, the FBI agent in charge of the Pittsburgh office, said it was "surprising" that the assassin was able to fire so many shots at Trump's campaign rally.
Mr. Rojek said: "We are still reviewing the security apparatus that the Secret Service deployed to determine what may have happened."
“There will be a lengthy investigation into exactly what happened and how that individual gained access to the location, the type of weapons he possessed. All of that will truly be days, weeks, and months of investigation,” Rojek added.
Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police added that the investigation will allow authorities "to examine whether any mistakes occurred and how things could be done better in the future."

The officer also explained the difficulties of security work: "To protect politicians , to open a venue to the public and then protect that venue from any potential threat from highly determined attackers is extremely difficult."
Footage of the shooting shows Secret Service agents rushing to protect Trump and escorting him into the motorcade after confirming the shooter had been neutralized.
Photographs taken by CNN show that U.S. Secret Service snipers had also positioned themselves on rooftops near the rally.
