Nearly a year after the devastating floods in Huu Lung commune, the lives of the people are gradually stabilizing; houses are being repaired, fields are being improved, and orchards are once again covered in greenery. Not only have infrastructure and production been restored, but the spirit of overcoming difficulties and the will to improve the situation of the people here have become even stronger.
Returning to Bai Vang village, Huu Lung commune, in mid-May 2026, the scene of devastation after the historic floods of the previous year had completely disappeared. Instead, there were lush green orchards, cornfields, and rice paddies.

Mr. Nong Van Trung, Party Secretary and Head of Bai Vang village, recalled: Due to the impact of Typhoon No. 11 in 2025, the village was one of the most severely affected flood-stricken areas. In just one day, rising water submerged all houses and crops. The entire village had 28 hectares of rice and 28 hectares of fruit trees (mainly custard apples and apples) affected, with many areas completely destroyed, leaving the villagers in dire straits.
"At that time, difficulties piled up, and many households lost all their income. However, thanks to the timely support of the State and the proactive spirit of the people, most families have now stabilized their lives and restored production," Mr. Trung shared.
Leading us on a tour of his newly planted custard apple and apple orchard, which was established just over a month ago, Mr. Ly Van Son from Bai Vang village confided: "My family has nearly 1 hectare of fruit trees, yielding an income of nearly 200 million VND per year. Last year's flood, due to prolonged submersion, killed all the trees, and the rice crop was completely ruined. I was very discouraged at the time. But with encouragement and support from the government, I decided to start over. Now, the entire area of fruit trees has been replanted, along with 6 sao (approximately 0.6 hectares) of rice that is growing well. My family is now confident in resuming production."
Not only Bai Vang village, but the historic floods last year caused severe damage in Huu Lung commune, with total estimated losses exceeding 98 billion VND. The floods damaged many rural roads; hundreds of hectares of rice, crops, and fruit trees were submerged and completely destroyed; and many households had to be urgently evacuated for safety… Afterwards, the commune's Party committee and government promptly mobilized forces to support people in overcoming the consequences of the natural disaster. They also coordinated with specialized agencies to assess the damage and implement support measures to help people quickly stabilize their lives. Accordingly, from state funds, the commune provided over 6 billion VND to help people recover from the damage.
Simultaneously, the Huu Lung commune government actively coordinated with relevant units to guide people in land reclamation, adjusting planting schedules accordingly, and proactively restoring production after the natural disaster. In addition, they coordinated with relevant units and mobilized social resources to support people in overcoming the damage caused by the floods. Many severely affected households received financial assistance and labor to repair and rebuild their homes, gradually overcoming their difficulties.
In her new home, Mrs. Hoang Thi Loc (Dong Lai village) said emotionally, "Last year's flood submerged the house up to the roof, causing cracks and damage. It didn't collapse, but we didn't dare live in it, and all our belongings were destroyed. Thanks to the government and generous donors who provided 150 million VND, my family was able to build this spacious house. Now that we have a safe place to live, we can focus on our work."
In addition to focusing on disaster relief and helping people stabilize their lives, in anticipation of the upcoming rainy and stormy season, the Hữu Lũng commune government has proactively implemented many solutions to enhance its ability to respond to natural disasters and minimize damage during the rainy and stormy season.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tan, Head of the Economic Department of Huu Lung Commune, said: "From the beginning of 2026, the department advised the Commune People's Committee to consolidate the Civil Defense Command Board, issue operating regulations, and assign specific tasks to each member to ensure timely leadership, direction, and response when natural disasters occur. Along with that, the commune focuses on preparing forces, materials, and equipment according to the 'four on-the-spot' principle; developing disaster prevention and control plans suitable to the local conditions. Information and warning work is also strengthened through the commune and village public address systems and Zalo groups to enable people to proactively prevent disasters. At the same time, the commune regularly inspects areas at risk of landslides, flooding, and critical infrastructure to promptly detect and handle emerging situations."
The commune also developed guidelines to educate people on reinforcing livestock shelters, stockpiling animal feed, disinfecting the environment, and vaccinating livestock and poultry against diseases; proactively clearing waterways and draining water in low-lying areas, reinforcing fruit and forestry areas, and closely monitoring weather developments to promptly harvest areas that are ready for harvest.
After the damage caused by natural disasters, greenery has returned to the fields and orchards of Huu Lung commune. Houses have been repaired and rebuilt, and production activities are gradually being restored, demonstrating not only the resurgence of the land after the floods but also the spirit of solidarity and resilience of the local people.
