In recent times, despite increased efforts by traffic police to raise awareness, conduct inspections, and enforce regulations, the situation regarding cyclo rickshaws violating traffic safety regulations remains complex. In particular, the widespread use of electric-powered cyclo rickshaws that have not been inspected by authorities, mainly concentrated in the wards of Nha Trang, poses a significant risk of accidents and traffic congestion.

According to statistics from the Road Traffic Police Team, since the beginning of the year, the team has patrolled, detected, and issued on-the-spot administrative penalties to nearly 100 cases of cyclo drivers violating traffic regulations, with a total fine of over 30 million VND. The main violations include stopping and parking in prohibited areas; driving against the flow of traffic; driving on prohibited roads; carrying more passengers than allowed; and illegally installing electrical equipment, portable speakers, and LED lights that compromise traffic safety and urban aesthetics.
Besides handling violations, the Road Traffic Police Team, in coordination with the Nha Trang Ward Trade Union, organized numerous legal awareness sessions on traffic safety for hundreds of drivers belonging to the Nha Trang Tourist Cyclo Union; they regularly encouraged union members to strictly comply with traffic safety regulations and build a friendly and civilized image for tourist cyclos. As a result, more than 120 drivers voluntarily removed illegally installed electrical equipment and signed commitments not to repeat the offense.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Duc Thuan, Deputy Head of the Road Traffic Police Team, said that in the coming time, the team will continue to coordinate with relevant units to strengthen patrols, inspections, and strictly handle violations, while also encouraging the removal of electric motors to ensure traffic safety and contribute to building a safe, civilized, and friendly tourism environment.
Proposal to book a cyclo through an app.
Recently, the Provincial People's Committee received a document from the Nha Trang Tourist Cyclo Cooperative - Cong Nong 79 Branch, proposing strengthened management and development of cyclo services in Nha Trang. According to the document, the Cong Nong 79 Branch argues that the current situation of over 1,500 cyclos operating freely and without control in Nha Trang has caused many negative consequences such as traffic congestion, poor service quality, overcharging tourists, and traffic accidents.

Therefore, the 79th Branch of the Agricultural and Industrial Corporation proposes that the Provincial People's Committee transfer the Nha Trang Tourist Cyclo Union to this unit for management; apply electronic identification codes to manage each vehicle, preventing illegal operation; require all cyclo drivers to receive tourism training and be issued professional licenses to improve their awareness of strictly complying with traffic safety laws. At the same time, they suggest removing large-capacity electric motors and using only small-capacity motors or pedal-powered cyclos to ensure traffic safety. The 79th Branch also proposes that electric cyclo drivers undergo regular alcohol level checks and wear helmets when carrying passengers; install fare meters like taxis; and implement digital transformation to allow cyclo booking via electronic apps for transparent pricing… The 79th Branch hopes that these proposed solutions will be considered and implemented by the provincial leadership to develop the cyclo industry sustainably and professionally, contributing to improving the image and quality of Nha Trang tourism services.
Regarding these proposals, Comrade Le Huyen - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - directed the Department of Construction to take the lead, in coordination with relevant agencies, units, and localities according to their assigned functions and tasks, to inspect and handle the proposals of the Nha Trang Tourist Cyclo Cooperative - Branch of Cong Nong 79; and to report, advise, and propose contents within the authority of the Provincial People's Committee in accordance with regulations before May 25, 2026.
