Ferrari began production of the SF90 in 2019, meaning it was time for a successor. Currently, only the limited edition SF90 XX is being produced, and the model is quickly approaching the end of its lifecycle.
Given the information mentioned above, it should come as no surprise that Ferrari is currently testing the SF90’s replacement on public roads. Scheduled to debut in September 2025 for the 2026 model year, the yet-to-be-named supercar combines the 296 engine with SF90 XX components.

Internally known as the F173M rather than the SF90's F173, this replacement was recently spied in Germany rather than Italy. However, the heavily camouflaged car weighs 296kg more than the SF90 XX, especially when you look closer at the design of the glass, mirror housings and roofline.
The offset of the two-spoke wheels is also quite impressive. Under the camouflage, you'll also see a thin strip of LED lights that appear to be inspired by the SF90 XX special edition. The widened rear end and larger front bumper air intakes suggest a more downforce-focused aerodynamic philosophy.

Similar to the Amalfi Roma successor, the steering wheel will feature more physical controls, including a dedicated start button. There will likely be minor changes to the dashboard design, along with improvements to the infotainment system.
Inspired by the F50 from behind the pillars, the F173M will retain the F154 series V8 we know and love. This engine line debuted in 2013 as a 3.8-liter V8 with wet sump lubrication and a cross-plane crankshaft in the Maserati Quattroporte GTS. The Ferrari version uses dry sump lubrication and a flat-plane crankshaft.

Ferrari's signature F154 engine was upgraded to 4.0 liters with the introduction of the SF90 Stradale and SF90 Spider, producing around 770 horsepower at 7,500 rpm. Peak torque is achieved at 6,000 rpm, and the maximum engine speed is a reasonable 8,000 rpm.
In the more powerful SF90 XX, the F154 engine produces an impressive 786 horsepower. Combined with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the first XX in Ferrari history produces 1,016 of the finest Italian horses. Whether the SF90’s production replacement will match that peak power remains to be seen.

Power, on the other hand, is sure to be upgraded, especially following the introduction of the 296 Speciale and the F80, the LaFerrari's replacement. At full power, the V6-powered flagship produces 1,184 horsepower and 627 pound-feet (850 Nm) of torque, compared to 868 horsepower and 557 pound-feet (755 Nm) in the rear-wheel-drive 296 Speciale.
Power and torque alone mean nothing without a properly tuned chassis and suspension. In addition to minor internal changes, the F173M is expected to shed a few more kilograms compared to its predecessor.
