The character mentioned above is Oraiden Manuel Sabonete, born in 2000, a "foreign" student of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. He is from Mozambique, currently in his third year of studying electrical engineering. Oraiden's Vietnamese name is Duc, but his teachers and classmates still call him by the affectionate name Duc "black".

Since childhood, I have admired Vietnam's bravery and resilience.

Sharing with Thanh Nien newspaper about his sudden "famous actor", the "foreign" student laughed happily: "I was very surprised. In the movie Dao, Pho and Piano , I only appeared briefly and was not the only African to play the role of a legionnaire. Perhaps the spread was thanks to a teacher at Hanoi University of Science and Technology sharing on Facebook about my achievements in participating in social activities during my time studying in Vietnam."

Oraiden said that becoming an "actor" was not a big deal. The film needed to mobilize a large number of people to play the role of French soldiers, including both black and white people. Oraiden's friends are international students (studying at many different universities in Hanoi) not only from Africa but also from Eastern European countries (Russia, Ukraine...).

The achievements in history and culture competitions that the "foreign" student achieved were thanks to his passionate love for Vietnamese history. That love came from when Oraiden was in high school, studying foreign history, including Vietnamese history (so since then he had secretly dreamed of setting foot on that heroic and resilient country).

However, the above events also brought Oraiden great joy, which was to bring pride to his parents, instead of the previous anxiety when he learned that his son decided to study abroad in Vietnam (under a scholarship agreement between the governments of Vietnam and Mozambique).

Oraiden said that in his parents' perception, Vietnam was still at war. After Oraiden came to Vietnam and experienced the peaceful life there, his parents felt reassured, but were still worried that he would have difficulty integrating into a place with a different culture. "But now my parents are very proud of me. They were very surprised to see that I had only been abroad for a short time and was already in the newspaper, on TV, and in movies," Oraiden shared.

Still determined to study engineering

But according to Oraiden, these activities only help him have more fun while experiencing life as an international student. The main thing he needs to focus on is achieving good results in his professional studies.

"Honestly, my grades in some general and specialized subjects are not good. I even have to retake some subjects. Partly because I don't know enough Vietnamese to do well in these subjects, and partly because I haven't spent enough time studying. The teachers are all trying to help me study better," Oraiden said.

In response to the teasing that Oraiden "chose the wrong major", he affirmed: "Before and after, I still only have one dream, which is to become a technician. I am determined to focus on studying at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, get a diploma to return to serve my homeland. Extracurricular activities are just to help me see that I have an interesting student life".

The motivation for Oraiden to strive to study well, in addition to realizing his own dream, is his Vietnamese girlfriend, Le Thi Bao Uyen, a final year student of the joint program between La Trobe University and Hanoi University.

"We've been in love for a year and a half. We both worked part-time at an English center so we met. Right from the start, we found that we had a lot in common, so when we fell in love, we didn't have to spend too much time flirting," Oraiden laughed.

"My lover is very proud of me. His family and lover are always ready to support and help me," said Oraiden.
