Samsung's super thin folding smartphone revealed

The latest images show that the foldable smartphone, which Samsung announced on July 9, will have an ultra-thin design on July 9.

Samsung has just announced that it will hold a Galaxy Unpacked event at 9:00 p.m. on July 9 (Vietnam time). According to the revealed images, the Korean company is expected to launch the latest generation of foldable smartphones, along with a number of other Galaxy devices.

The event took place in Brooklyn, New York (USA) with the highlight coming from the next generation Galaxy Z line, with artificial intelligence features.

Based on rumors, the devices that could be launched include the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, integrating Samsung's latest technology for foldable phones. Of which, the Z Flip7 is expected to increase the size of the outer screen, similar to Motorola's Razr Ultra.

The Galaxy Z Fold7 still has a book-shaped design, with a large screen inside to be used as a tablet. In Samsung's teaser video , the Z Fold7 is likely to be thinner, with a smaller screen border than its predecessor.

The Galaxy Z Fold7 will compete with Chinese brands like Huawei, Honor and Oppo, which are emerging with their ultra-thin foldable smartphones. The “Ultra Unfolds” tagline also hints at the Z Fold Ultra version.

Based on renders from Android Headlines , the Galaxy Z Fold7's screens are expected to be larger, measuring 6.5 inches and 8.2 inches respectively.

Responding to Bloomberg , Honor representative said that the upcoming Magic V5 foldable smartphone is only 8.8 mm thick when folded. Meanwhile, Samsung's big rival in the US, Google, is also expected to launch the Pixel 10 Pro Fold later this year.

The foldable smartphone market has seen fierce competition in recent years, despite many people not accepting the new design.

Foldable devices are more expensive than regular phones and remain niche, but many companies hope the new design can attract a wider audience.

Apple, Samsung’s biggest rival in the mobile market, has yet to launch a foldable smartphone. However, rumors suggest the company plans to launch a foldable iPhone as early as 2026.

In addition to smartphones, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch8 watch on July 9, along with improvements revolving around the Galaxy AI platform. Previously, rumors said that Samsung could reach an agreement to integrate the application and search assistant of startup Perplexity AI into the new device line.
