Green Sunday has become a movement at all levels of the Youth Union in the province, with the meaning of working together to build a green, clean, and beautiful environment. Through the activities of Youth Union members, young people contribute to gradually forming a more civilized lifestyle and a greater sense of responsibility towards the environment for each individual in society.

For many years, the "Green Sunday" initiative has been organized by youth unions at all levels in Quynh Phu district with various specific activities such as environmental sanitation campaigns, collecting waste in residential areas and schools; working together to clean fields; removing illegal advertisements and flyers; exchanging plastic waste for environmentally friendly household items, etc. With the belief that only a change in awareness leads to positive action, youth union branches in the district have also intensified environmental protection awareness campaigns through banners, leaflets, recycled bags, and the use of probiotics to treat organic waste. Thanks to the positive effects, farmers now voluntarily collect used pesticide bottles and containers and dispose of them properly; many people reduce their use of plastic bags and sort waste at home.
Nguyen Duc Long, a young man from Quynh Giao commune (Quynh Phu district), said: "Green Sunday carries a meaningful message about environmental protection. Every action, however small, taken by young people, such as picking up trash or planting trees, contributes to making the living environment greener and cleaner. For me personally, besides keeping my family, village roads, and alleys clean, I also participate in collecting pesticide packaging or other waste in the fields."
The youth of Quynh Phu are clearing the way for progress.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Thuy, Secretary of the Quynh Phu District Youth Union, the "Green Sunday" movement not only contributes to raising environmental protection awareness among Youth Union members in particular and the people in the district in general, but it is also an opportunity to unite and gather young people to participate in Youth Union, Association, and Team activities, especially young people in schools.
The Green Sunday initiative, launched by the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee, aims to promote the role of young people in activities related to building new rural areas and civilized urban areas, raising awareness about environmental protection, disaster prevention and control, climate change adaptation, improving law compliance, and fostering environmentally friendly behavior. Accordingly, Green Sunday is organized simultaneously from the provincial level down to communes, wards, and towns in March, May, July, and September each year.
To ensure the movement is widely implemented and effectively promoted, according to Mr. Thieu Minh Quynh, Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union: Based on the plan of the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee, youth unions at all levels proactively research and select volunteer activities suitable to the conditions of young people in their units and practical for the locality and residential area. Not only are they doing well in waste collection and environmental sanitation, but to further improve the effectiveness of environmental protection, youth union branches are also doing well in mobilizing young people to utilize recycled materials such as used motorcycle and car tires, wood, and iron, skillfully and creatively creating slides, swings, tools, and toys, creating playgrounds in cultural centers and schoolyards for children.
In many localities and organizations, the "Green Sunday" initiative is always given attention by all levels and sectors. In particular, due to its positive effects, the movement has received widespread support and participation from the people.
Ms. Duong Thi Lien, from Group 4, Hoang Dieu Ward ( Thai Binh City), said: "Although I don't live in this group, many young people have come here to collect garbage, clean up the environment, and clear waterways, helping to make the urban landscape increasingly beautiful. I feel that I myself also need to raise my awareness in keeping my house and residential area clean."
Beyond simply changing people's awareness and actions in environmental protection, the youth of Thai Binh also enthusiastically and widely implement volunteer and social welfare activities on Green Sundays. This shows that the green volunteer uniform is always an extension of the Party committees and government at all levels in carrying out political tasks at the grassroots level.
