Exciting 2025 Dien Bien Province Ethnic Minority Sports Festival

VHO - On October 23, at Dien Bien Provincial Stadium, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien and the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions held the opening ceremony of the 2025 Dien Bien Provincial Ethnic Minority Sports Festival. The competition attracted the participation of 500 officials, coaches, and athletes from 28 delegations in Dien Bien.

Athletes competed in 8 sports including: throwing con, pushing sticks, crossbow shooting, tu lu, tug of war, to ma le, to sang, and pounding rice cake, with a total of 34 events.

This is the second year that the Sports Competition dedicated to ethnic minorities has been held in Dien Bien province. The activities at the Competition aim to practically establish achievements to celebrate major holidays of the country and the province; welcome the success of the 15th Congress of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030, towards the 14th National Congress of the Party; continue to promote the movement "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" associated with the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life".

Through that, the sports movement in mountainous, border and ethnic minority areas will be widely developed, improving people's health, physical strength and stature; contributing to building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.

The competitions took place excitingly, attracting enthusiastic cheering from the audience.

The contest is held to preserve and promote folk games and national sports in Dien Bien province.

According to the Organizing Committee, the Competition is organized to preserve and promote folk games and ethnic sports according to the Project "Preserving and developing the culture of ethnic groups in Dien Bien province associated with socio-economic development", effectively implementing Project 6 under the "National target program on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030".

Through this, discover and select outstanding athletes to prepare forces to participate in the National Ethnic Minority Sports Competition. In particular, select and prepare forces to train and participate in the 10th National Sports Congress in the pole pushing and tug of war events, which will be held in the fourth quarter of 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The contest is expected to close on the afternoon of October 25.
