Son Heung-min asks for the red card for Bui Hoang Viet Anh to be overturned.

" Son Heung-min asked the referee to overturn Bui Hoang Viet Anh's red card. He believes the Vietnamese defender didn't deserve it ," a member of the Vietnamese national team confirmed to VTC News.

The incident that led to Bui Hoang Viet Anh receiving a red card occurred in the 61st minute, right after the Vietnamese team kicked off following the fourth goal conceded. Viet Anh miscontrolled the ball, but he quickly rectified his mistake with a quick interception.

Son Heung-min sprinted forward at high speed, attempting to put pressure on the Vietnamese defender. Bui Hoang Viet Anh's clearance deflected off Son Heung-min. The South Korean star continued his run, colliding with Viet Anh's supporting leg.

Viet Anh received an unfair red card.

Malaysian referee Mohd Amirul Izwan Bin Yaacob determined that Bui Hoang Viet Anh had committed a foul and issued a red card. The 1999-born central defender was stunned and tried to explain to the referee that he had not committed a foul. He had a valid point, as Son Heung-min had not yet controlled the ball, and Viet Anh had not made any proactive movement with his supporting foot.

Several South Korean players, including Son Heung-min, Hwang Hee-chan, Lee Jae-sung, and Cho Gue-sung, also approached the referee to explain the situation. Son Heung-min, in particular, explained that it was not a situation that warranted a red card.

Bui Hoang Viet Anh received a direct red card.

Referee Mohd Amirul Izwan Bin Yaacob did not change his decision. The fact that VAR was not used in the friendly match between the two teams meant that Bui Hoang Viet Anh could not have his yellow card rescinded. Then, in the 90th minute, Yaacob's assistant made another mistake.

Van Khang made a pass to Van Toan, who broke free in an open position, but the 1996-born striker was ruled offside. Looking at the replay, at the moment Van Khang passed the ball, Van Toan was behind the South Korean player but was in Vietnam's own half. This was an incorrect offside call.

Mohd Amirul Izwan Bin Yaacob, born in 1986, has been a FIFA referee since 2012. He officiated the match between Thanh Hoa and Viettel in Round 25 of the V-League 2019.
