VOV.VN - The Department of Education and Training of Son La province has submitted a proposal to the People's Committee of Son La province requesting the issuance of a pilot program for teaching and learning 5 days a week for secondary schools.

Accordingly, the principles for selecting pilot schools and organizing the pilot program are that schools must have sufficient facilities and teaching staff to organize two-session-per-day teaching; the distance from home to school must be manageable for students to travel back and forth within a day; the school must ensure the educational plan and quality of education when organizing teaching five days a week; the curriculum and teaching content must not be shortened, and the number of teaching hours must meet the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program…

Ninety-eight schools in Son La are being proposed for a pilot program of teaching five days a week.

Upon review, 211 out of 282 secondary, high school, and continuing education schools in the province met the criteria for piloting the program. However, based on proposals from districts/towns/cities, and to ensure a comprehensive, accurate, effective assessment of the impact of teaching 5 days a week, the Son La Provincial Department of Education and Training proposed that 98 schools, including secondary, high school, and continuing education schools, pilot the program 5 days a week; of these, 69 schools are located in favorable areas, while the remainder are in disadvantaged and border regions.

The pilot program of teaching and learning five days a week is being implemented at the secondary school level.

Regarding the teaching and learning organization plan, the 98 pilot schools will organize teaching and educational activities in two sessions per day from Monday to Friday (off on Saturday and Sunday); each day will not exceed 7 lessons, and each week will not exceed 35 lessons. These institutions must develop a 5-day/week teaching plan that suits their actual conditions, ensuring that it does not affect the learning progress and quality of education, and does not overload students…

The proposed pilot implementation period is from April 1, 2025, until the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

Having two days off on the weekend allows students more time to participate in experiential activities, extracurricular activities, and develop life skills.

Currently, nearly 20 provinces and cities nationwide are piloting a 5-day/week teaching schedule, including Hanoi , Bac Giang, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, and Phu Tho. Lao Cai and Lai Chau have completed their pilot programs and will implement them on a large scale from the 2024-2025 school year; Nam Dinh province, after completing its pilot program, will implement it on a large scale from March 2025.
