From 7:00 AM on June 4th, approximately 7,500 students from all over the country flocked to Hanoi Pedagogical University to take the entrance exam for the university's specialized high school.

Local police were present from early morning and worked continuously to manage traffic flow and guide vehicles. However, congestion still occurred due to the large number of people flocking to the site. Many parents had to stop their cars far away so their children could walk to the exam location.

Before the exam with the highest competition ratio of 1 in 29.9, many parents and students clearly showed signs of nervousness and anxiety on their faces.

The soldiers were nervous before the '1 against 30' race.

Since yesterday, Tran Phuong Thao (a student from Nguyen Dang Dao Secondary School, Bac Ninh ) has moved to Hanoi and is staying with an acquaintance. Having applied to the specialized English class, with a competition ratio of 1 in 29.9, the female student couldn't hide her nervousness.

From sixth grade until now, Thao has consistently been a member of her school's English gifted student team. She also took the entrance exam for Bac Ninh Specialized High School, but Thao believes the specialized English exam at the Teacher Training High School is significantly more difficult and different in format.

Candidates must take four exams over two days, June 4th and 5th. These include three common subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and English. After that, they will take a specialized subject exam corresponding to the specialized class they registered for.

Therefore, in addition to her specialized subject, Thảo also has to review three general subjects. "It's very difficult," the female student said, adding that her extra study schedule is packed, averaging 7-8 sessions per week.

Sharing the same feelings as Thảo, Trần Hải Như (a student from Nguyễn Huy Tưởng Secondary School, Hanoi), who registered for the specialized Literature class, entered the exam with mixed feelings of excitement and pressure.

"I'm quite worried because the competition is very fierce and there are many very talented people," Nhu shared.

To prepare for this exam, Hai Nhu spent her 9th grade year "almost without a weekend off". For her specialized subject, in addition to extra classes, the female student also attends exam preparation classes twice a week. The number of exam papers that Nhu has worked on is "countless".

"The specialized subject exam content includes a lot of in-depth knowledge, including literary theory. In the mock exams, I usually scored 5-5.5 points in the specialized subject," the female student shared.

The number of applicants reached a record high, with the student from the furthest distance in Phu Quoc.

Speaking to Tri Thức - Znews , Mr. Vu Van Tien, Principal of the High School for Gifted Students affiliated with Hanoi University of Education, said that this year the school received nearly 7,500 applications, the highest number since its establishment and considered the largest number of candidates nationwide. In previous years, the average number of applicants was around 5,000-5,500.

The principal stated that with its nationwide recruitment scope, the school attracts a large number of applicants from all provinces and cities across the country. The percentage of applicants from outside Hanoi each year typically accounts for around 20-25%.

"This year, the furthest candidate comes from Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone. This student registered for the specialized English class and traveled to Hanoi with his family yesterday. The school has proactively contacted the family to support the male student during the exam," Mr. Tien shared.

The school is recruiting 490 students, across eight specialized programs: Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, English, and Geography. Of these, Geography and Biology have 35 places each, while the remaining programs have 70 places each.

The English specialized program received the most applications, with 2,095 students registering, resulting in a competition ratio of 1/29.9, a significant increase from last year's 1/22.9. This was followed by the Biology specialized program, with a competition ratio of 1/19.1.

The Geography and Computer Science specializations have the lowest competition ratio at 1/8.1. Compared to last year, the Computer Science specialization has seen a significant decrease in competition, from 1/19.1 to half that ratio.

The number of applicants and the competition ratio for admission to the Hanoi University of Education's High School for Gifted Students this year are as follows:

With a large number of candidates, Mr. Tien said that the school has arranged 9 examination centers within the Hanoi University of Education campus with 248 examination rooms. All examination rooms are equipped with air conditioning and provide free drinking water for students.

Traffic management measures were also implemented early at the gates on Xuan Thuy and Pham Van Dong streets. At each examination site, there are volunteers to guide students to their examination rooms.

In addition, the coordinating units also implemented the "Supporting Students During Exams" program, distributing free handheld fans, drinking water, and school supplies. The simultaneous implementation of multiple solutions aims to reduce stress for candidates and their families.

For parents, the school has opened the auditorium and gymnasium, which are air-conditioned and provide free drinking water so that parents can rest while waiting for their children to finish the exam.

According to regulations, candidates must take all four exams, not violate exam rules, and not score below 3.5 points on any exam. Exam scores are calculated on a 10-point scale. The school does not add priority points in the admissions process.

Tuition fees are expected to be 3.4 million VND/month. The expected cut-off scores for 10th grade will be announced before June 30th.
