Sony may be developing a PlayStation 2 emulator

According to ComicBook , one issue that has been a thorn in the side of Sony fans since the launch of the PlayStation 4 for years is backward compatibility. Accordingly, both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 have shown to be very limited in supporting older Sony games. Although things have improved a bit over the past few years, the PlayStation 5 is still quite behind the Xbox Series X/S.

But this could be about to change, as it's rumored that Sony is currently working on a new PlayStation 2 emulator that could significantly expand the game library with a huge number of the older console's catalog.

Rumors have emerged that Sony is developing a PlayStation 2 emulator.

This rumor was first spotted at PlayStation Lifestyle, but it actually comes from YouTuber Mystic's channel. In a video titled " Classic Games On PS5: Sony Is Doing Better… But… ", Mystic talked at length about one of the reasons why Sony isn't bringing classic PS2 games to the PS5, which is that there's no PlayStation 2 emulator. He then went on to say that the Japanese console maker is currently working hard on a new PlayStation 2 emulator.

While he doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to leaking information, this is good news for fans of Sony’s classic games. Plus, while the YouTuber doesn’t usually post leaks, it’s likely he’s gotten inside information from Sony to make this claim.

After all, Sony has been pushing classic games to its PlayStation Plus service for the past few years, using the service as a way to get older games into users’ hands. However, the service has recently seen a sudden price increase without any additional benefits for users, so choosing to invest in classic games on the service may be a move to appease users.
