On June 2nd, Johannes Koskinen, Chairman of the Finnish Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, released this information.
Speaking to the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper, Koskinen said the committee had not been provided with any information regarding the threat from UAVs.
"We were told that this data is classified and that its release could affect future access to information," he said.
He warned that, to ensure national security, the government has an obligation to fully share information with the committee; otherwise, lawmakers will be unable to assess the risks from the government's decisions.
The day before, news reports, citing sources, stated that the drones that appeared in Finnish airspace on May 15th were mistakenly launched by Ukraine. In the city of Uusima, air raid sirens sounded due to the drone threat, forcing nearly 2 million people to seek shelter.
On May 15, Yle Radio and Television reported that Ukraine did not notify NATO countries, including Estonia and Latvia, in advance about the UAVs approaching the border.
Therefore, the Baltic states had to warn Finland about this threat themselves.
