Entering the final match, the Vietnamese women's team carried the immense pressure of being the defending champions, along with the strong belief from their fans.

Facing a clearly improved Philippines team, boasting many naturalized players and superior physique, the "Diamond Girls" still opted for a proactive style of play, controlling the game with their technical skills and extensive experience in big matches.

The Vietnamese women's team was unfairly denied a goal in the SEA Games 33 final.
The highlight of the final match came in the 30th minute. Following a well-coordinated attack down the right wing, Bich Thuy headed the ball into the net against the Philippines, much to the delight of the Vietnamese players and the cheering red-shirted fans in the stands.
However, that joy was quickly extinguished when the referee disallowed the goal, ruling that it was offside.
This controversial decision became the most discussed topic of the final match. Slow-motion replays showed that Bich Thuy's goal was perfectly legitimate and not offside at all.
However, in football, the referee's whistle is the final decision. The Vietnamese girls had to swallow their resentment and continue playing.
After that incident, Coach Mai Duc Chung's players maintained their focus and commendable fighting spirit. They didn't give up or collapse. But at the penalty spot, composure and luck didn't smile upon the Vietnamese girls.

"We could see that Vietnam played well. We had a goal but it wasn't allowed. This is the second time we've been at a disadvantage due to a referee's decision, against the same opponent, the Philippines."
Even Thailand had to offer their condolences. They said they couldn't understand why the referee didn't award that goal. The refereeing affected the match and the team's performance," coach Mai Duc Chung said after the final match.
This defeat is a great loss, but it cannot erase what the Vietnamese women's team has contributed. They fought until the very last seconds, overcame many difficulties to reach the final match, and only succumbed to a cruel moment and a lucky penalty shootout.

That's football; the better team doesn't always win.
A match where Coach Mai Duc Chung's players fought with all their courage, ambition, and national pride, but ultimately had to bow down to the harsh reality of football – where a single moment can change destiny.
Although they couldn't win the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games, in the hearts of their fans, "The Diamond Girls" still deserve respect and pride.
From this defeat, the Vietnamese women's team will rise stronger, continuing their journey to conquer new heights, with the belief that justice and glory will eventually smile upon them in the future.
