Many lakes, waterfalls, and riverside areas, despite mostly lacking the necessary administrative procedures for tourism business, are still attracting a large influx of tourists. Some places even received over 10,000 visitors in just 10 days during the Lunar New Year holiday. From a specific perspective, the appeal of lake and waterfall tourism is contributing to the diversification of tourism in Binh Thuan province.
Binh Thuan is not only home to beautiful beaches, sand dunes resembling miniature deserts, famous scenic spots, and temples. It also boasts many picturesque lakes and waterfalls that attract tourists from afar. When talking about lakes, many people will mention Bau Trang – located in the Le Hong Phong – Hoa Thang area – because amidst the miniature desert and vast sand dunes, a deep, clear lake appears. However, Binh Thuan has more than just Bau Trang; there are dozens of other lakes with equally enchanting beauty, yet their full potential for tourism development has not been realized.
The story is that my friend from the US recently came to Binh Thuan for a long vacation. After spending days exploring the beaches of Mui Ne, Binh Thanh, Cam Binh, and Ke Ga, he asked me if there were any attractive lakes, waterfalls, or forests to "change the scenery." I told him there were plenty, from large natural lakes spanning thousands of hectares like Bien Lac, located between Duc Linh and Tanh Linh districts. Although there aren't any tourist attractions there yet, you can rent a boat from the fishermen to explore the lake. Near Phan Thiet, there's Song Quao Lake in Ham Thuan Bac, or Du Du Lake and Song Mong Lake in Ham Thuan Nam, and Song Phan Lake in Ham Tan… these are some of the most beautiful irrigation reservoirs, but if you want to visit and camp, remember to ask permission from the lake management because there are no official tourist attractions there. With Ham Thuan - Da Mi Lake, although it already has a business license and insurance for boats and people to serve tourists, some other procedures are still being completed. Therefore, it is considered a "bright spot" in the "lake - waterfall - forest" tourism development chain that the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan Province has surveyed and submitted a project proposal to the Provincial People's Committee for approval.
Regarding waterfall tourism, in Binh Thuan province, Ba Waterfall is a "officially recognized" tourist destination. The seven-tiered waterfall in Da Mi commune, often called the "number one waterfall" by tourists, and the Reo waterfall in Duc Linh still face procedural hurdles, similar to the Ham Thuan - Da Mi lake tourist area, but are still worth visiting. Particularly noteworthy is the Truot waterfall in Duc Phu commune, Tanh Linh district, a unique location that attracts thousands of visitors from afar. During most holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and weekends, the lake and waterfall areas in Binh Thuan are packed with visitors from both within and outside the province, seeking enjoyment and relaxation. Despite lacking many necessary conditions for tourism, and even in some unregulated areas like La Ngau commune, tens of thousands of visitors flock to these places. The question is: what makes lake and waterfall tourism so popular with tourists?
Mr. Nguyen Phuong, from District 5, Ho Chi Minh City, replied to me quite gently: "My family has been to Binh Thuan to enjoy the beach dozens of times already. We love Binh Thuan, so when we heard about a new tourist destination, we went to La Ngau to admire the river and swim in the La Nga River to experience it. Everyone in the family enjoyed it." Going on a yacht trip on Ham Thuan - Da Mi lake felt like all my fatigue was washed away by the space, time, and the gentle scenery of the lake and mountains, making all my worries disappear. It was a very meaningful vacation. I will learn from the people of Binh Thuan about tourism to invest in the 'golden triangle' area of Binh Duong - Dong Nai - Ho Chi Minh City." Ho Chi Minh City… For Tony, an American citizen, after a long vacation on the beaches of Binh Thuan from Ham Tan, Ham Thuan Nam, La Gi, Phan Thiet to Tuy Phong, he had a trip exploring lakes, waterfalls, and forests from Duc Linh, Tanh Linh to Ham Thuan Bac. Tony concluded: Binh Thuan tourism has so much potential; the resort "capital" Mui Ne, Novaworld, the Ke Ga area, and Cam Binh have achieved initial success. But tourism must be rich and diverse.
