- Work: "Ao dai and conical hat" - Taken at: Lam Dong
Introduction: Closely associated with the cultural life of the Vietnamese people, having become a source of inspiration for many poetic works, the conical hat and the ao dai have become a symbol when mentioning Vietnamese culture, the pride of every Vietnamese person when remembering. Unlike the traditional costumes of neighboring countries such as Japanese kimono, Korean Hanbok, Indian Sari,... which require sophistication when wearing, the Vietnamese ao dai is simple, neat, convenient but still exudes elegance. For that reason, the Vietnamese ao dai has penetrated every corner of Vietnamese cultural life, not only worn on traditional occasions such as Tet, weddings but also favored in daily life. In addition to the function of protecting from the sun and rain, the conical hat also completes and enhances the beauty of Vietnamese women, discreet, graceful but extremely charming. Like the ao dai, the conical hat has a long history, about 2500-3000 years ago, associated with the image of the Vietnamese people. People wear hats to go to the market, to festivals. In the fields, in the alleys, there are conical hats with quai thao. The hat replaces a fan to cool down on hot summer days. The hat is like a souvenir to convey the feelings of a mother when sending her daughter off to get married. The hat has appeared in countless poems, becoming a typical image that poeticizes the image of Vietnamese women: "The homeland is a small bamboo bridge, when mother returns, the conical hat tilts to cover". Those melodies have been deeply engraved in the hearts of every Vietnamese child since the days they were in the cradle, becoming a sacred symbol representing the Vietnamese soul, the soul of the nation.
