Nowadays, USB has become an indispensable part when appearing on many devices such as laptops, desktops, game consoles and even home appliances. USB not only allows fast data transfer but also supports efficient device charging and seamless connectivity.

Purple USB ports are rare but indicate a certain feature

When looking at USB ports, users can notice the variety of colors and shapes. These colors are not only aesthetic but also have functional meaning, helping users easily recognize the capabilities and purposes of each port. While blue (USB 3.0) and black (USB 2.0) USB ports have become familiar, purple USB ports are less common.

Meaning of purple USB port

When you see purple USB ports, they usually indicate support for USB 3.1 technology, which allows for data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps, much faster than USB 2.0 (480 Mbps) and USB 3.0 (5 Gbps). This makes purple USB ports ideal for tasks like transferring large files, streaming high-resolution video , and quickly charging devices.

It’s worth noting, however, that USB port colors aren’t standardized across manufacturers. In some cases, a purple USB port may indicate the use of Huawei’s SuperCharge standard, a proprietary fast-charging technology for its devices. According to Huawei’s standards, the purple port (which is present on both USB-A and USB-C) allows for faster charging at up to 66W.

This means that while purple USB ports often refer to USB 3.1 or Huawei's SuperCharge, users should check the device's specifications or documentation to confirm the exact capabilities of the purple USB port on each specific device.
