Parents receive calls from individuals impersonating teachers, claiming their child has been in a traffic accident, and are asked to transfer money for hospitalization.

According to reports, several parents of students at Vo Thi Sau High School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) said that this morning, November 18th, they received numerous calls from unknown numbers, with callers claiming to be teachers from the school. They informed the parents that their children had been in a traffic accident and were hospitalized, urgently needing money for emergency surgery. Even after receiving the calls and going to the school to report the incident, the scammers continued to call, urging them to transfer money urgently.

One parent shared: "When I first heard about it, I panicked and immediately contacted family members who warned me it was a scam. I also immediately called the homeroom teacher to inquire and learned that my child was still attending class as usual."

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Huynh Van Hoai, Vice Principal of Vo Thi Sau High School, said that the incident occurred this morning and the homeroom teacher had reported it to the school's administration. According to Mr. Hoai, several parents received similar calls. Some parents immediately contacted the homeroom teacher, and those living nearby came to the school to verify the information.

A member of the school administration stated that the school immediately requested homeroom teachers to inform parents to reassure them. Simultaneously, they informed teachers, students, and parents to raise awareness and avoid being scammed by malicious individuals.

In March 2023, in Ho Chi Minh City, parents received phone calls from individuals impersonating teachers or school staff, informing them that their children had been hospitalized and urgently needed money transferred for life-saving surgery. Some parents, surprised and worried, were tricked into transferring tens of millions of VND after receiving the calls. Following this, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training issued an urgent notice, requesting homeroom teachers to inform parents of the school's hotline number so they could contact the school for verification purposes and to prevent fraud.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requires heads of units to review and check the conditions to ensure the information security of students, teachers, and staff under their management. Educational institutions must take measures to disseminate information and guide parents, students, and teachers to be cautious in receiving information, proactively verify information, and avoid receiving false information...

At the same time, the Ho Chi Minh City Police also warned about some aspects related to this scam. Accordingly, when receiving information about a relative being involved in an accident, people should remain calm and contact the agency, company, or school where their relative works or studies to verify the information.
