VPA Annual Conference 2023 - promoting cooperation for sustainable development

Attending this conference were Mr. Le Do Muoi - Director of Vietnam Maritime Administration, Mr. Bui Thien Thu - Director of Inland Waterways Administration, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang - Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Tran Thuong Chi - Director of Ba Ria Vung Tau Department of Transport, Nguyen Cao Luc - Deputy Head of the Government Office and about 500 delegates who are directors, senior managers from 81 member ports and representatives from associations, enterprises supplying port exploitation equipment.

The annual conference is an opportunity for Association members to exchange and share experiences, propose solutions to overcome existing limitations in seaport operations, and make recommendations and proposals to central and local authorities. At the VPA 2023 conference, member ports jointly assessed the opportunities and challenges of the Vietnamese seaport industry in the following year, exchanged experiences, and gave opinions on urgent issues of the seaport industry such as planning, investment, cooperation for sustainable port development, port management, digital transformation, safe operation and security of information technology systems.

Tan Cang Saigon focuses on digital transformation and green transformation

The trend of developing clean energy, reducing emissions, and protecting the environment is an inevitable trend, aiming towards a harmonious, environmentally friendly economy, ensuring social security for all subjects in society. In Vietnam, the Government is also determined to implement actions to realize the commitment to a net zero emission level at COP26, as well as approving the "National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021-2030, vision 2050", "Project on developing a circular economy in Vietnam with the general goal of moving towards a green, carbon-neutral economy and contributing to limiting global temperature rise". The logistics industry in general and seaports in particular have also had action strategies to join hands in the greening process of the industry, with action programs on green energy conversion, green port development projects... In which, digital transformation and automation are trends promoting the greening process, sustainable development not only of the logistics and seaport industries but also of the whole economy. It is expected that after 2030, the "green port" criteria in planning, investment in construction and business exploitation of seaports in Vietnam will be applied compulsorily.

As the leading port operator in Vietnam, TCSG has been implementing many digital transformation and green transformation solutions at 16 port facilities across Vietnam's key economic regions, along with a system of 7 ICDs supporting connectivity. Tan Cang - Cat Lai and Tan Cang - Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) are among the first ports in Vietnam to achieve the Green Port title of the APEC Port Services Network Council. In 2023, TCSG was also honored to receive the Top Industry 4.0 Vietnam award - an award honoring outstanding enterprises in the 4.0 Industrial Revolution and digital transformation towards the development of the digital economy in Vietnam.

Vietnam's Cai Mep port cluster is in the TOP 12 most efficient seaports in the world. With the mission of connecting the flow of goods and developing the marine economy, TCSG owns three deep-water ports with three different advantages at Cai Mep - Thi Vai.

●Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) is a leading partner of shipping lines and shipping alliances. TCIT currently holds 35% market share in the Cai Mep - Thi Vai area, with 10 weekly international service routes connecting to ports in North America, Canada, Europe and Inner Asia.

●Tan Cang - Cai Mep Port (TCCT) affirms its outstanding capacity in receiving wind power cargo ships. As the first deep-water port in Vietnam, capable of receiving ships with a capacity of up to 160,000 DWT, TCCT has become a leading unit in specialized logistics services for oversized and overweight cargo in the Southern region in particular and in countries in the region in general.

●Tan Cang - Cai Mep Thi Vai Port (TCTT) promotes cooperation, constantly improves service quality, expands connections, coordinates with agencies to simplify procedures... to meet the needs of customers and shipping lines, contributing to building Cai Mep deep-water port cluster, not only an important port for Vietnamese import and export goods but also an attractive international transit point in the region.
