Ms. Thanh has loved French for a long time, so when she learned that Can Tho University offered a French language course, she researched and enrolled. As an older student, Ms. Thanh faced many difficulties. For example, online learning, submitting assignments online, and using a computer were major challenges for her. “I made a great effort to get used to the technology. There were times when I needed my children and grandchildren to guide me through each small operation. Besides my own efforts, the dedicated support of the teachers and the university gave me the motivation to complete the course,” Ms. Thanh shared. She said that her ability to absorb and remember information is no longer as sharp as before, so she spends more time taking notes, reading additional materials, and communicating with lecturers via email whenever she doesn't understand a lesson.
Despite facing numerous obstacles, she persevered in her studies, believing that the older she got, the more important it was to keep her mind active, prevent forgetfulness, and continue to absorb new things. Previously, she studied and worked in the medical field before retiring. Her French Language degree was her second degree, earned purely out of passion. According to Ms. Thanh, simply loving a subject isn't enough; it's crucial to master the foundational knowledge to excel and continue improving later on.
Not only did she persevere in pursuing her passion, but Ms. Thanh also wanted to convey a simple yet meaningful message: "The ocean of knowledge is endless; no one can learn everything. Therefore, if you can still learn something, continue to learn."
