With Long Coc tea hills – considered the most beautiful tea hills in Vietnam, a lush green paradise in the midland region, or the waterfalls and caves in Xuan Son National Park, and the unique cultural identity of the Muong and Dao ethnic groups, Tan Son district has many advantages for developing community tourism .
Tourists watch the sunrise on Long Coc Tea Hill.
Visiting Long Coc, tourists can admire a stunning natural landscape with hundreds of hills of varying sizes, resembling inverted bowls, interspersed with clouds, creating a unique and distinctive scenery. This is an ideal location for cloud hunting and capturing impressive nature photographs, attracting numerous photographers from both Vietnam and abroad. Many award-winning photo collections of the Long Coc tea hills have made a strong impression and attracted tourists.
Mr. Ha Van Luan, owner of Tony Luan Homestay in Bong 1 area, Long Coc commune, shared: "To meet the demands of tourists visiting Long Coc, my family has renovated the house to expand the living space and cultural activities with a strong Muong ethnic identity, creating conditions for tourists to experience the tea processing stages; I myself have also learned more photography techniques so that I can advise tourists on choosing the best locations and times to take photos to get the most satisfying pictures when visiting Long Coc."
As the core commune of Xuan Son National Park, Xuan Son commune currently boasts three interesting provincial-level tourist destinations that attract visitors: Du Village community tourism site, Coi Village community ecotourism site, and Ngoc Waterfall ecotourism site. In addition, the traditional tangible and intangible cultural values and heritage of the Muong and Dao ethnic groups are being effectively preserved and promoted, from their costumes and folk performing arts to their cuisine with many specialties such as five-colored sticky rice, multi-toed chickens, Ri chickens, stream ducks, wild boar hybrids, fern shoots, bamboo shoots, etc., and the traditional herbal remedies of the Dao people, creating a unique characteristic of Xuan Son tourism.
To maximize tourism resources, Tan Son district has coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to implement the Project for the Development of Community-Based Ecotourism in Xuan Son National Park until 2025. The focus is on mobilizing resources to invest in ecotourism infrastructure in Du hamlet; building several models to create highlights for tourists, such as the "Xuan Son Flower Tourism Road"; and developing a model to support households in Long Coc and Xuan Son communes in developing community-based homestay tourism linked to ecotourism. The district is closely linking tourism development with the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values, building distinctive traditional cultural, agricultural , and handicraft products to serve tourism; and supporting and guiding people in developing sustainable tourism models. The district is also strengthening training to improve the quality of human resources, organizing training courses, and providing tourism professional guidance to each member of the homestays.
Seventeen homestays run by Muong and Dao ethnic minority households in Long Coc and Xuan Son communes have been equipped with skills in reception, table service, room service, beverage preparation, and food preparation; training for tour guides in Long Coc; guidance on photography and videography skills, building promotional images to introduce tourist destinations; and English communication training for the community involved in serving tourists. The homestays have also expanded their experiential spaces for tourists, connecting with local people so that visitors can experience tea picking, tea processing, and participate in folk art performances of the Muong and Dao ethnic minorities.
Developing community-based tourism, mobilizing community participation in tourism development, helps create additional livelihoods, improve people's lives, raise their awareness in preserving the living environment, tourism resources, and cultural identity, and enrich tourism products in a positive way. This is the key to promoting sustainable tourism development in Tan Son district, contributing to the socio-economic development of the district.
