Mr. Lee Jae Myung officially assumed the position of President of South Korea at 6:21 am this morning (June 4) local time, immediately after the NEC confirmed the election results in a plenary session. He will be sworn in before the National Assembly at 11 am the same day. Before this event, he will visit the Seoul National Cemetery.
Mr. Lee Jae Myung will assume presidential duties, including the role of commander-in-chief of the armed forces, from Acting President Lee Ju Ho.

* On the same morning, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Mr. Lee Jae Myung on his election as President of South Korea, while affirming the two countries' shared commitment to the alliance and expressing his desire to strengthen trilateral cooperation between South Korea, the US and Japan.
Secretary Rubio emphasized that the United States and the Republic of Korea share an unwavering commitment to an alliance based on the Mutual Defense Treaty, common values, and deep economic ties. The two sides are working together to modernize the U.S.-ROK alliance to meet the demands of the current strategic environment and address new challenges.
