The mission aims to promote cooperation in the fields of research, policy advice, legal institution improvement, science and technology development, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation and sustainable development. The delegation had effective working sessions with many leaders of the National Assembly and Government, groups of parliamentarians, experts and leading scientists from the UK (in Scotland) and the Republic of Ireland.
According to a VNA correspondent in Europe, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang met and worked with Mr. John Lahart, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, and a group of Irish parliamentarians; Mr. Colm O'Reardon, Secretary General of the Department of Higher Education , Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS); Mr. William Beausang, Assistant Minister and DFHERIS officials.
Irish partners expressed their deep impression of Vietnam’s development achievements and aspirations, highly appreciated the capacity of the Vietnamese people and wished to continue promoting and strengthening the relationship more substantively and comprehensively in all fields, especially in science and high technology, artificial intelligence (AI), data management and training and fostering high-quality human resources. Irish leaders, parliamentarians and partners also affirmed the increasingly practical and effective cooperation between Vietnam and the Republic of Ireland.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang emphasized the importance of implementing high-level agreements and strategic decisions of Vietnam, including the Resolution on science and technology, education and training and energy security. He also informed about the socio -economic development situation of Vietnam, especially the growth target of over 8% in 2025.
During the working trip, the delegation also worked with Professor Martina Lawless and experts from the Economic and Social Research Institute of Ireland (ESRI); Professor Gerard McHugh, Vice President of Global Affairs (Trinity Global), Head of Development Department of Trinity College Dublin; and leading officials, experts, and scientists of Trinity College Dublin; visited the Trinity Innovation Center, Ireland's leading innovation center, a pilot model of research and development (R&D) and links with education and training, businesses, especially the world's leading technology businesses.
Professor Gerard McHugh, Vice-President of Trinity College, emphasized the importance of these links and the significance of the Centre. The College has now successfully built many connections with global corporations and businesses such as IBM, Google, Microsoft, Apple... with a large number of researchers and scientists.
In Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang had a discussion with Professor Chris Turney, Vice-Chancellor in charge of research and application at Heriot-Watt University; Professor Yvan Petillot, Co-founder of the National Robotics Centre at Heriot-Watt University; Associate Professor Yen Tran, Edinburgh School of Business, Strategy and Innovation, and a group of leading Scottish experts and scientists on innovation, high technology, AI, energy conversion, especially renewable energy, offshore wind power and the application of AI in the installation and operation of offshore wind power systems.
In Dublin and Edinburgh, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang also met and discussed with the Association of Vietnamese intellectuals and experts living and working in Ireland and Scotland. Vietnamese intellectuals expressed their wishes and proposed mechanisms and policies to contribute to the development of their homeland, strengthen close connections in the innovation ecosystem, develop science and high technology between the community of experts and scientists at home and abroad, actively contributing to the successful implementation of the Party's strategic decisions in the new era of national development, including private economic development, green growth and green economy, marine economy, renewable energy, AI.
The working trip opened up new directions, deepening the strategic partnership between Vietnam and the UK and the partnership between Vietnam and the Republic of Ireland in innovation, science and high technology, artificial intelligence, education and training, while strengthening connections with Vietnamese intellectuals abroad.
