On the afternoon of September 29th, Tuoi Tre newspaper, in coordination with the Youth Union of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, organized the distribution of emergency assistance to 10 families severely affected by Typhoon Bualoi.
The coastal village of Nghi Hoa, Cua Lo ward, Nghe An province - the place that bore the brunt of the storm when typhoon number 10 made landfall - is still littered with rubble, fallen trees, and many roads cut off by flooding. The traces of a fierce storm are still clearly visible on the damaged roofs.
When we arrived at her house, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ha (48 years old) was rummaging through the rubble to find any remaining belongings after the storm. Her face showed clear signs of exhaustion after a sleepless night. Mrs. Ha explained that her husband was away on business, and that she and her daughter were sleeping inside the house on the night of September 29th when the storm hit.
"At 3 a.m., the wind howled incessantly, tearing off the roof. The concrete above collapsed, and my mother and I ran down to the kitchen to escape," Mrs. Ha recounted.
They were lucky to survive, but their home, once their family's haven, is now just four bare walls. Heavy rains continued after the storm, forcing the mother and daughter to seek refuge at a neighbor's house.

Receiving support from Tuoi Tre newspaper to rebuild her roof after the storm, Mrs. Ha was deeply moved.
"This is a valuable source of encouragement that will help my family overcome difficulties and stabilize our lives," Mrs. Ha confided.
Not far from Mrs. Ha's house, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan's family is also temporarily sheltering under a tarpaulin after their house was damaged by the storm. Mr. Tuan's family is in particularly difficult circumstances; his mother recently passed away after years of battling illness. Their difficulties have compounded by the relentless storms that ripped off their roof.
"Typhoon No. 5 last month damaged part of the roof. My wife and I hired someone to repair it, but now Typhoon No. 10 is even more violent and has blown away the entire roof," Mr. Tuan said sadly.
After the storm, Tran Tuan Nghia, an 8th-grade student at Le Binh Secondary School in Thach Lac commune, Ha Tinh province, and his mother and siblings were also burdened with worry as their house's roof was blown away. All their belongings were reduced to rubble.
The main source of income for the mother and her two children depends on a few leased rice paddies, and life is always a struggle to make ends meet. Nghia's older brother has to undergo dialysis weekly, and the treatment costs are quite expensive.
Before the storm hit, hearing the village loudspeaker announce that people should evacuate to the village headquarters to take shelter, the mother and her two children only managed to grab a few sets of clothes. When the storm subsided and they returned, their house was completely destroyed.
"With the roof gone, all my belongings and books are damaged. I'm worried about what will happen to me going to school in the next few days...", Nghia said, his voice dropping.

Sharing in the difficulties faced by people in the storm-affected areas, the editorial board of Tuoi Tre newspaper decided to allocate 2 billion VND to the "Re-roofing for people in storm-affected areas" program (8 million VND per completely destroyed house) and award scholarships to "Preventing school dropout" (3 million VND per scholarship) to poor students and families affected by Typhoon Bualoi.
Ms. Nguyen Ny Huong - Secretary of the Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union - shared: "During natural disasters like storms and floods that leave behind many losses and damages for the people, we always receive the compassionate support from the readers of Tuoi Tre newspaper."
"The gifts from our readers today are the first timely and valuable gifts to reach our people after the storm, helping them and the students to have more motivation to overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives soon."
"The people have just gone through consecutive storms and floods over the past two months, making life even more difficult and they urgently need the community's support to help rebuild their lives," said Ho Phuc Hai, Deputy Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Youth Union.
