On the morning of December 19th, in Hanoi, the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front organized a "Scientific Workshop on the Core Political Role and Responsibilities of the Fatherland Front and Political-Social Organizations in Building National Unity."
Dr. Nguyen Huu Dung, member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front , and former Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, emphasized that since its establishment and throughout its revolutionary leadership, the Party has always identified building national unity as a strategic guideline and the source of strength.
Particularly in the context of the country entering a new era, consolidating and promoting the great national unity under the leadership of the Party, as well as unifying the position and special importance of the great national unity, has become an urgent requirement and a key solution for the sustainable development of the country.
According to Mr. Dung, the new social context has posed many challenges to building national unity, specifically: the effectiveness of promoting the strength of national unity in some areas and regions has not been high, failing to unleash and develop the enormous potential of the people; some policies are not yet practical and difficult to implement; the lives of the people, especially in ethnic minority areas, mountainous regions, and remote areas, still face many difficulties, and the gap between rich and poor and regional disparities remain large.
At the conference, delegates discussed and provided scientific and practical grounds to clarify the theoretical and practical basis of the core political role and responsibilities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations in building, consolidating, and promoting national unity, including the coordination mechanism between the Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations, mass associations, and the political system and the people in building national unity; and simultaneously proposed solutions, initiatives, and policies to enhance the role and responsibilities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations in building the National Unity Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
Speaking at the conference, Professor and Doctor Tran Ngoc Duong stated that the Vietnam Fatherland Front, political and social organizations, and mass associations constitute a widespread organizational system, bringing together all strata of the people, all classes, all ethnic groups, all religions, and all Vietnamese people abroad. This is the decisive factor in the Vietnam Fatherland Front, political and social organizations, and mass associations playing a core role in gathering and promoting the strength of national unity.
According to Professor and Doctor Tran Ngoc Duong, with the functions of social supervision and criticism stipulated in the 2013 Constitution and the 2015 Law on the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, political and social organizations, and mass associations become subjects in the mechanism of people's control over state power.

"Through the exercise of its functions of social supervision and criticism, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, political and social organizations, and mass associations not only contribute to building a State that is truly a State of the people, by the people, and for the people, but also create social consensus and solidarity," Mr. Duong emphasized.
On another aspect, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Ba Trinh, a member of the Presidium, believes that there needs to be a unified understanding and a shared determination to implement the reform of the organizational and operational model of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and other political and social organizations in the new period.
According to Mr. Trinh, there is a need for strong reforms in the organization and operation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and political and social organizations through the continued improvement of organizational restructuring and early stabilization after mergers, streamlining the apparatus of specialized agencies of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and political and social organizations at all levels according to the new model. Attention should be paid to clarifying the leading and coordinating roles and responsibilities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and the coordinating responsibilities of the Executive Committees of political and social organizations.
Referring to the role of associations in building national unity, Dr. Tran Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Administrative Sciences, said that it is necessary to strengthen the leadership of the Party and Party committees at all levels, and to implement state management of associations in a modern and effective direction; at the same time, it is necessary to change the mindset and re-evaluate the position, role, and responsibilities of associations because there must be equality among associations, equal legal status, and they must truly be voluntary, non-profit organizations.
"It is necessary to study and reorganize the associations under the Vietnam Fatherland Front according to a new, streamlined organizational model, avoiding overlapping and duplication of tasks, identifying intermediary organizations to find appropriate solutions, ensuring that associations operate effectively, especially when under the direct control of the Fatherland Front; implementing the motto: no 'associations within associations,' 'higher-level and lower-level associations,'" Mr. Tuan emphasized.
With objective and scientific perspectives, the presentations provided much important material, offering insights, analyses, assessments, and synthesis of new issues and factors in the current social context that affect the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, political and social organizations, and mass associations in building and consolidating the strength of national unity.
Many new issues have been raised from the perspectives of managers, leaders, scientists, and researchers in economics, culture, and society, providing important findings and suggestions for the Vietnam Fatherland Front in researching and proposing the National Unity Strategy.
