Giving a boost to impoverished ethnic minority communities.

These days, visiting Nghinh Tuong commune, a remote and disadvantaged area in Thai Nguyen province, one can easily sense the joy and excitement evident on the faces of many poor and near-poor ethnic minority households as they receive livelihood support from the government to develop their economy. The breeding cows handed directly to the people are not only valuable assets but also offer hope for sustainable poverty alleviation for many families in the area.

The family of Ms. Trieu Thi Hong, of the Dao ethnic group, has found a way out of poverty thanks to the livestock support program.

For many years, the family of Ms. Trieu Thi Hong in Cao Son hamlet, despite diligently working in the fields, has remained trapped in hardship due to a lack of investment capital for production. Ms. Hong happily shared: “Having a breeding cow gives my family more motivation to work hard and take good care of the cattle to build up the herd. At this rate, in about two years my family will escape poverty.”

Currently, Thai Nguyen province has over 32,000 poor and near-poor households; of which poor households account for more than 4.3%, and near-poor households account for over 3.3%. This figure shows that poverty reduction efforts still face many difficulties, especially in mountainous communes and ethnic minority areas. Therefore, the province is implementing many comprehensive solutions to create sustainable livelihoods for the people. From 2024 to 2025, the province has provided breeding cows to 20 poor and near-poor households belonging to ethnic minorities. Each cow provided is not simply immediate support but also a "fishing rod" for people to build long-term livelihoods and increase their income.

Through practical and realistic approaches such as providing breeding cattle, seedlings, and guidance on production techniques, Thai Nguyen province is gradually creating a "boost" to help poor ethnic minority people gain more confidence and motivation to improve their lives and escape poverty sustainably in their homeland.
