Urethral reconstruction using oral mucosal fragments

On August 15, Nguyen Trai Hospital announced that it had just performed urethral reconstruction surgery using a piece of oral mucosa for a young patient.

The patient is Mr. NQK (29 years old), hospitalized with symptoms of difficulty urinating and prolonged orchitis. After successfully treating the inflammation, Mr. K. still complained of difficulty urinating, the doctors discovered that Mr. K. had a 4-5cm narrowing of the penile urethra. This is a complicated and difficult to treat condition, seriously affecting urinary function.

Faced with a case that could not be treated by conventional cutting and connecting methods, the team of the Department of Urology - Andrology, Nguyen Trai Hospital decided to apply the technique of urethral reconstruction (urinary tract) using a piece of oral mucosa. This is a technique that requires meticulousness, delicacy and high professional capacity of the surgeon.

A piece of oral mucosa was carefully removed, processed and grafted to the narrowed urethra to reconstruct a new duct. After surgery, the patient's condition was stable and the recovery process was positive.
