Dong Nai Hospital -2: Successful application of AI in percutaneous nephrolithotomy

Dong Nai-2 Hospital has just marked a breakthrough in surgical treatment when it successfully applied artificial intelligence (AI) for the first time in a percutaneous nephrolithotomy surgery for a male patient (born in 1975, residing in Nhon Trach district). This is the first case in Dong Nai to treat kidney stones using AI technology, opening a new direction in improving the quality of medical examination and treatment.

Previously, the patient was hospitalized with symptoms of pain in the lumbar region, diagnosed with coral kidney stones, about 3x2cm in size. Instead of open surgery, treated by the traditional method, the patient was indicated for percutaneous endoscopic lithotripsy with the support of AI integrated in the ultrasound system. Dr. Phan Trong Hung, Head of the Department of Surgery - Urology, said that AI technology allows integration and analysis of images from many sources such as ultrasound, CT, MRI and visual display throughout the surgery. Thanks to that, doctors can accurately locate the stone, shorten surgery time, limit risks and improve treatment effectiveness. The success of the surgery not only demonstrates the ability of the medical team to master high technology, but also is an important step in bringing AI into local medicine.

Dong Nai 2 Hospital said it will continue to expand the application of AI ultrasound in other specialties, helping people access more advanced, safe and effective treatment methods.
