Regarding strong winds on land, the leader of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that this morning, the storm is only capable of causing strong winds of level 6, in some places level 7, gusting to level 8-9 in coastal areas of Quang Ninh province, border areas between Lang Son province (Vietnam) and Guangxi (China).
Regarding rain, the hydrometeorological expert said that from early this morning until the end of the night of October 7, the mountainous and midland areas of the North will have heavy rain, with common rainfall of 100-200mm, and in some places very heavy rain of over 300mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain over 150mm/3 hours.
The Northern Delta and Thanh Hoa regions are forecast to have moderate to heavy rain with common rainfall of 50-150mm, and locally very heavy rain over 200mm.
The leader of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that storm Matmo is unlikely to cause heavy, concentrated rains and widespread flooding like on September 30. However, localized flooding can still occur in low-lying areas with slow drainage.
The expert said that the Hanoi area was not affected by the storm, and there was no heavy rain in the city this morning. However, from noon to tonight, the storm's circulation is likely to cause heavy rain in the Hanoi area with common rainfall of 50-100mm, and locally over 150mm.
The hydrometeorological agency warns that due to the influence of storm circulation, it is necessary to guard against the risk of thunderstorms, tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.
