(Baohatinh.vn) - With spacious and solid houses built from the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, many households in difficult circumstances in Ha Tinh have firmly overcome the storm.

After a near-death accident in 2004, Ha Khac Ha (Gieng Thi village, Son Tien commune) was disabled in the legs and in poor health. Ha's wife is a freelance worker with an unstable income. The family is poor and has 3 children, but one of them unfortunately has a congenital heart disease.

Faced with Mr. Ha's difficult situation, in February 2025, the local government and philanthropists supported the family with 100 million VND to build a house under the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses.

Mr. Ha Khac Ha (middle) shares with officials of Gieng Thi village about the situation of stabilizing life after storm No. 10.

The house is solidly built with a total area of 70 m2 , including 2 bedrooms, 1 living room and a private bathroom. Since its completion and use in April 2025, the small house has "resiliently" overcome big storms, becoming a safe shelter for the whole family.

Mr. Ha Khac Ha shared: “Previously, when we lived in a dilapidated house, every rainy and stormy season, my wife and I had to use buckets and basins to catch water, and even find every way to take our elderly parents and children to shelter. This year, thanks to the new house, when it rains heavily and the wind is strong, the whole family can gather together and safely avoid the storm. After two big storms No. 5 and No. 10, my family was very lucky to have no property damage.”

After nearly 6 months of use, Mr. Ha's house has "steadfastly" weathered many big storms.

Gieng Thi village (Son Tien commune) has 115 households with 450 people. When storm No. 10 made landfall, many houses in the area had their roofs blown off. Ha's house and a few other households were fortunately not damaged. Mr. Dinh Van Hung - Secretary of the Party Cell of Gieng Thi village said: "When implementing the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, Gieng Thi village had 2 households supported to build new and repair houses. After storm No. 10, both of these houses were safe and had no damage. Supporting the construction of solid houses for poor households and households in difficult circumstances is an extremely practical policy, because if they have to suffer the consequences of storms and floods continuously, the recovery will make them even more exhausted, making it difficult for them to escape poverty."

Not only Son Tien commune, through surveys in many localities heavily affected by storm No. 10 such as Son Giang, Duc Minh, Duc Quang, Thien Cam, Tien Dien, Duc Dong communes... most of the houses built from the Temporary House Elimination and Dilapidated House Elimination Program are guaranteed to be solid and safe in structure, with almost no major property damage.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Lieu (Son Quang village, Duc Dong commune) shared: “Previously, my four children and I lived in my grandmother's dilapidated house, lacking everything. During many stormy nights, I was worried about the safety of my children and my elderly mother. Now, with the support of 70 million VND from the government, I borrowed more to build a solid house with a total area of 90 square meters . Since moving in from June 2025 until now, my children and I have been "protected" through consecutive storms, so I am more secure in finding a job and developing the economy ."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Lieu (in black shirt) shares with the Fatherland Front staff of Duc Dong commune about the life situation after storm No. 10.

Mr. Vo Vinh Tai - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Duc Dong commune shared: " After reviewing the damage caused by storm No. 10, in Duc Dong commune, nearly 500 houses had their roofs blown off and more than 230 structures were damaged. However, 25 houses supported for new construction and repair from the Temporary House Elimination and Dilapidated House Elimination Program are still safe and sturdy. This is also proof of the correct policy of the Party and State, contributing to helping households in difficult circumstances minimize damage when facing the harshness of natural disasters."

For many poor households, near-poor households, and people with meritorious services, and relatives of martyrs, houses built with State support and socialized funds are not only a place to "protect from the rain and sun" but also a driving force for them to develop the economy and improve their quality of life. Mr. Tran Van Truong (village 4, Huong Khe commune) shared: "The mountainous area of Huong Khe is often affected by natural disasters and floods. Previously, the continuous recovery of the consequences left my family economically exhausted, making it difficult to escape poverty. Now, when I live in a solid house, I feel much more secure. Right after storm No. 10 passed, I quickly cleaned up and soon restored economic development from gardening and raising livestock and poultry."

The attention of all levels and sectors helps households in difficult circumstances stabilize their lives and soon escape poverty.

According to the report of the Provincial People's Committee, storm No. 10 damaged 78,842 houses, especially some communes with many damaged houses such as: Mai Phu 6,331 houses; Bac Hong Linh 3,290 houses; Gia Hanh 3,000 houses; Can Loc 2,939 houses; Thien Cam 2,980 houses... Immediately after storm No. 10 passed, localities coordinated with police and military forces, organizations and unions to support people in re-roofing their houses, overcoming the consequences to quickly stabilize their lives and restore production.

In the face of the devastation of natural disasters, the warm and loving houses from the policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in Ha Tinh have helped households in difficult circumstances to firmly overcome the big storm. This is also a testament to the correct policy of the Party and State, contributing to improving the quality of life, creating a stable foundation for social security, associated with the goals of comprehensive socio-economic development.
