Fishermen participate in training on combating IUU fishing in Rach Gia ward.
The training course was attended by approximately 130 boat owners and captains from Binh An commune, My Thuan commune, Vinh Thong ward, and Rach Gia ward; officials and employees of the An Giang Provincial Fisheries Port Management Board; economic departments of communes, wards, and special zones with fishing vessels; organizations and individuals managing fishing ports and fish loading points that meet the requirements; border guard posts and stations; the Provincial Fisheries Association; and 31 seafood processing and export businesses in the province.

Officials from the Fisheries and Fisheries Inspection Sub-Department distributed leaflets to fishermen to raise awareness about IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing.
During the training session, speakers from the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Inspection disseminated key information related to combating IUU fishing, such as the results of the 5th inspection by the European Commission (EC) in Vietnam; the plan to implement EC recommendations following the inspection; and new legal regulations related to combating IUU fishing. Businesses practiced using the eCDT application.
Fishermen were also given detailed instructions on the new features of the eCDT VN electronic seafood traceability software system; updated regulations on monitoring seafood production at ports, product classification, recording fishing logs, issuing fishing licenses, and issuing certificates and confirmations of the origin of harvested seafood.
Fishermen, boat owners, captains, and businesses are given the opportunity to practice using the eCDT VN software on phones and computers to improve their digital technology application skills in managing and tracing the origin of harvested seafood.
Through this training course, we aim to raise awareness and responsibility among fishermen, ship owners, captains, and related organizations and individuals regarding compliance with laws and regulations on fisheries exploitation, thereby contributing to the nationwide effort to lift the EC's yellow card warning against Vietnam's fisheries sector.
