Tay Ninh: Developing a rural clean water supply network.

Tay Ninh province is gradually improving its rural clean water supply system in a way that is stable, sustainable, and adaptable to climate change. The province aims to increase the percentage of rural residents with access to clean water, ultimately ensuring safe water supply for the entire region.

A rural water supply project

To date, Tay Ninh province has a total of 1,204 rural centralized water supply systems. Of these, the Long An area (before the merger) has 1,125 systems, with 82.68% of rural households using clean water; the Tay Ninh area (before the merger) has 79 systems, with 72% of households using clean water.

To meet the growing demand for clean water among rural residents, Tay Ninh province has set a development direction for its rural water supply system in the coming years, focusing on stability, sustainability, and adaptation to climate change.

Specifically, the province will continue to operate existing water supply systems using a hybrid model combining centralized and decentralized water supply, exploiting surface water from Dau Tieng Lake. For the northern region, where surface water resources are scarce, priority will be given to exploiting a combination of surface and groundwater.

Tay Ninh will implement a public investment plan for rural water supply for the period 2026-2030, prioritizing the construction of large-scale, inter-communal projects, gradually replacing small, inefficient projects with substandard water quality. At the same time, the province will actively seek support from domestic and international organizations to gradually improve the rural water supply system, moving towards the goal of providing safe water.

Simultaneously, the province will invest in the construction of water supply facilities to serve drought and saltwater intrusion prevention and control after receiving funding support from the central government. In addition, research and application of new technologies in water treatment will be pursued, such as technologies for filtering saltwater and brackish water into freshwater; collecting, treating, and storing rainwater to ensure quality; and treating household water with simple and efficient operating equipment. In particular, the exploitation of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and wave energy in clean water production and wastewater and livestock waste treatment will also be promoted.

In addition, the province will review and upgrade equipment and pipelines, and improve the operational efficiency of existing water treatment plants to meet water needs during the dry season and the drought- and salinity season; at the same time, it will implement measures to regulate water resources and ensure sufficient minimum water for rural residents.

With clear directions, Tay Ninh province is gradually realizing its goal of increasing the percentage of rural residents with access to clean water, aiming to build a safe, adaptable, and sustainable rural water supply system.
