Türkiye has officially entered the hypersonic race with the launch of the Tayfun Block-4, a hypersonic ballistic missile built for high maneuverability and increased survivability against modern airborne threats.
The weapon is an upgraded version of the Tayfun short-range ballistic missile, first tested in 2022.

According to local media, the Tayfun Block-4 is 21 feet (6.5 meters) long, weighs about 2.5 tons (2,300 kg) and is powered by solid composite fuel.
The missile carries a multi-purpose warhead capable of neutralizing enemy air defense systems, command centers and critical infrastructure from a distance of up to 800 km (500 miles).
Launched from a mobile military vehicle, the hypersonic missile uses a satellite guidance system to achieve a reported strike accuracy of 5 to 10 meters (16 to 33 feet) while reaching speeds of Mach 5 (about 6,174 km/h).

The weapon is designed to withstand electronic warfare and operate in all weather conditions, day or night. Türkiye plans to develop future variants with a range exceeding 1,000 km (620 miles).
Tayfun Block-4 was unveiled to the public at the opening ceremony of the 17th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF), Türkiye's largest defense exhibition held in Istanbul.
More than 900 Turkish defense companies and 400 foreign defense companies are participating, along with official delegations from more than 100 countries attending.
The launch attracted high-level attention from the Turkish army and navy, the Defense Industries Board (SSB) and executives from Roketsan, the missile's developer.
