Although the workload is not heavy, contractors working on the expressway project through Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces are still arranging for their staff and workers to continue construction throughout the Tet holiday.
Construction continued throughout the Tet holiday.
According to observations by reporters from Giao Thong Newspaper, in the first days of the Lunar New Year of the Snake, the sound of machinery continued to fill the construction site of the North-South expressway section passing through the provinces of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh.
On a hill over 100 meters high at the XL 02 Vung Ang - Bung project section passing through Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, 11 slope structures have been successfully lowered. Workers here continued diligently working throughout the Tet holiday.
At the Vung Ang - Bung project section passing through Bo Trach and Quang Trach districts in Quang Binh province, the atmosphere on the construction site has been bustling since the first days of the new year.
Teams of vehicles diligently compacted the soil that had just been dumped by trucks. Nearby, a long line of trucks carrying materials stretched out, delivering supplies to the construction site.
According to Nguyen Truong Tam (36 years old, from Phu Tho province), a road roller operator, his team consists of 8 people from Phuong Thanh Construction Company, which is currently working on package XL 02 of the Vung Ang - Bung project.
Workers diligently stayed at the construction site during the first days of the new year.
According to Mr. Tam, this year, the unit's leadership still arranged for 50% of the staff, workers, and machine operators to stay at the construction site to continue work throughout the Tet holiday.
"For us – transportation workers – celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year) on the construction site is perfectly normal."
On the night of the 30th of Tet (Lunar New Year's Eve), the company's leaders organized a New Year's Eve celebration for the employees at the temporary shelters. Each employee received a New Year's lucky money gift from the company to boost morale.
"In addition, those workers who stayed on the construction site before and after Tet received higher salaries and bonuses..." - Mr. Tam informed.
The bridge project across the Gianh River, with a length of 2.8km, is currently having its surface paved by the contractor Phuong Thanh.
Of the 18 km of main route that Phuong Thanh is responsible for constructing, there are several locations with weak soil foundations awaiting preloading. At these locations, the construction unit is prioritizing the concentration of engineers and construction teams to assess the settlement.
After inspecting the weak soil areas to ensure safety, the construction teams are then allowed to proceed with other stages of the work.
To date, many locations with weak soil foundations have had their road surface foundations constructed; some points are currently awaiting load testing. Load testing is expected to be completed by March 2025.
At the bridge project across the Gianh River - a crucial component of the Vung Ang - Bung package - the contractor Phuong Thanh is currently laying asphalt concrete on the bridge surface.
The 2.8km-long bridge is the largest bridge on the expressway section passing through Quang Binh province.
Even during the Lunar New Year holiday, workers on the highway project continued to work tirelessly.
Similarly, at construction sites where high hills are being leveled, such as the hill at Km 613, the hill at Km 614, the hill at Km 616, etc., numerous large excavators are scooping up large chunks of earth and rock and loading them onto trucks to be transported to the disposal site.
At these locations, the contractor has completed the road base construction in preparation for the asphalt paving phase.
"The work of 'cutting' the hills here is very difficult because it's far from residential areas and lacks phone signal, but at this point, there isn't much work left. We expect to finish paving the road in a few days," shared worker Tran Van Tuan.
Package XL 02 of the Vung Ang - Bung project, the section passing through Bo Trach district, has been largely completed and is now open to traffic.
Having been closely involved with the project since its inception, engineer Tran Hai Dang from Phuong Thanh Company shared that this is the second Tet holiday he and his colleagues have spent working on the construction site throughout the holiday.
During Tet (Vietnamese New Year), engineers and workers are unable to return home to celebrate with their families, so the company's leadership has instructed that the celebrations for those working on the construction site be as proper as possible.
"Although the remaining workload for our unit is not much, we are still required to stay at the construction site to work throughout the Tet holiday."
To date, out of 18km, the unit has paved 10km; along with that, the signpost extension system has been installed. Production has reached 82%, equivalent to approximately 3,600 billion VND, exceeding the contract schedule by 2%," engineer Dang informed.
Representatives from Project Management Board 6 (the project's investor) provided the following information: In Package XL 01, the main items such as the Deo But tunnel are being completed by the contractor to ensure traffic safety; many large bridges will also be joined in 2024 and are awaiting asphalt paving. In Package XL 02, the main expressway route is basically open from beginning to end, and the contractor is completing items to ensure traffic safety, protective fences, etc.
Maintain 3 shifts, 4 teams
Similarly, this was the situation at the highway project construction site through Ha Tinh province during the first days of the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025.
Although many tasks have met or exceeded the set schedule, contractors are still having workers operate in "three shifts, four teams"; hundreds of workers, engineers, and machinery are still diligently working on the main construction items.

Engineer Nguyen Cong, the project manager of Vinaconex, the contractor for the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi package, said that, in accordance with the Prime Minister's directive, the contractor had planned to work three shifts from the very beginning of the project.
Now that the work is basically complete, we are still deploying personnel to stay at the construction site and continue working throughout the Tet holiday.
According to Vinaconex leaders, as of now, the unit's completed output has reached 75% of the contract value, equivalent to 1,965 billion VND out of a total of 2,670 billion VND.
Contractors are deploying 40 to 50% of their workforce to work throughout the Tet holiday.
"We aim to complete the main line by April 30, 2025, as committed to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport," a Vinaconex leader said.
According to engineer Cong, Ha Tinh is experiencing relatively heavy rainfall at this time, causing some tasks such as treating weak soil foundations and laying asphalt concrete to fall slightly behind schedule.
In return, we were flexible with overtime, taking advantage of dry weather to do other tasks such as installing guardrails, extending signposts, etc.
According to the Thang Long Project Management Board – the project's investor – the project has reached over 80% of its production value to date. Specifically, the roadbed is basically complete, the bridge, culvert, and underpass systems are 100% complete, and the asphalt concrete paving is over 60% complete.
