Quang La commune was established by merging the communes of Quang La, Bang Ca, Dan Chu, and Tan Dan (formerly Ha Long City). This merger not only expanded the administrative boundaries but also created a unified ecological and cultural space, enabling the locality to comprehensively plan its natural, cultural, and human resources. After six months of operating the new model, the changes are clearly evident in the lives, production, and community activities of the people.
In the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), the spring atmosphere permeates the villages. Amidst the vibrant colors of the Dao and Tay ethnic costumes, people enthusiastically participate in cultural and artistic activities and traditional folk games such as: throwing the "con" (a type of ball), archery, folk singing, playing the "Tinh" instrument, and singing "Then" songs… The cultural space of the highlands becomes lively, rich in identity, and imbued with the spirit of spring in the mountainous region.

A highlight of the Tet (Lunar New Year) atmosphere in Quang La is the activities preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities. The brocade embroidery craft of the Dao Thanh Phan and Dao Thanh Y people is still preserved through every stitch. In community spaces, elderly artisans patiently pass on their skills, language, folk songs, and rituals to the younger generation. The Dao Thanh Phan Ethnic Culture Preservation Club, newly established in mid-November 2025 with 28 members aged 16-78, has become a place connecting generations, contributing to preserving the cultural essence from its roots and spreading ethnic pride in contemporary life.
Alongside this, traditional festivals such as the Dao people's coming-of-age ceremony, the Tay people's new rice harvest festival, and the harvest prayer ceremony have been restored and organized solemnly, meeting the spiritual and cultural needs of the people. The Dao New Year (on the 20th day of the 12th lunar month every year) is still preserved from generation to generation, and this year the commune organized it on a larger and more distinctive scale. These cultural values not only create the unique spring atmosphere of Quang La, but also form an important foundation for the locality to develop cultural tourism and community tourism in the future.
This year's Tet (Lunar New Year) brings even greater joy to the people of Quang La as the rural landscape continues to improve. By 2025, the local economy is expected to maintain stable growth, with an average per capita income reaching nearly 82 million VND/person/year, and no more households living in poverty. Infrastructure such as transportation, irrigation, lighting, and other public works are receiving significant investment, creating favorable conditions for production development and improving the material and spiritual lives of the people.

Just before the Lunar New Year, the simultaneous commencement of infrastructure projects with a total investment of over 88 billion VND further enhanced the festive atmosphere. Upgraded roads, renovated canals, and completed lighting and green spaces not only improve the quality of the residential area but also demonstrate the consensus and collective efforts of the people in building their homeland. Many households voluntarily donated land and labor to ensure the projects were completed in time to serve the people during the spring festival and New Year celebrations. Welcoming the new year, the people of Quang La are not only happy with the visible changes but also have high expectations for future development.
Mr. Le Huu Nghia, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang La commune, shared: "With the advantages of mountains, forests, diverse ecosystems, and cultural identity, we are gradually orienting the development of forestry economy associated with ecotourism and community tourism. The Spring of the Year of the Horse 2026, the first Tet holiday after the merger, is not only a milestone for a new administrative unit, but also the beginning of a new, hopeful development path, striving to make the lives of the people increasingly prosperous and fulfilling."
