Nguyen Thi Thao (Dong An village, Nui Thanh commune), an 8th-grade student at Phan Chau Trinh Secondary School, grew up in a disadvantaged family. Thao's father was the main breadwinner but unfortunately passed away while fishing at sea, leaving her mother and two sisters to struggle to make ends meet. Aware of her family's circumstances, Thao always strives to excel in her studies.
In 2024, Thao received the "Dream Net" scholarship worth 6 million VND. The scholarship not only supported Thao's education but also gave her hope, helping her believe in the future despite the many difficulties in her life.
Similarly, Le Thi Tieu Binh (Thuan Tri village, Duy Nghia commune), an 8th-grade student at Ngo Quyen Secondary School, also grew up in a poor family. In 2019, her father unfortunately passed away in a maritime accident, leaving behind her mother and four siblings. Binh's mother, Tran Dang Tam, works hard in agriculture, earning a limited income, and the family is classified as near-poor. Despite the hardships, Binh has always studied diligently and maintained excellent academic performance for many years.
Ms. Tam shared: “My job is unstable, and my income is precarious, so it's not enough to provide for my children. Fortunately, thanks to the "Dream Net" scholarship, Binh has the opportunity to study. I hope this scholarship will continue to support Binh in his studies, nurturing his dreams and looking towards a hopeful future.”
The "Casting the Net of Dreams" scholarship program supports disadvantaged children, especially the children of fishermen in coastal provinces, to help them continue their education and nurture their dreams. The program is sponsored by Acecook Vietnam Joint Stock Company through the Vietnam Children's Protection Fund and was implemented in Da Nang city and Quang Nam province (before the merger).
Scholarships are available for children from primary to high school, selected based on family circumstances such as hardship, loss of the main breadwinner, or limited income. The program not only supports the children's education but also provides motivation for fishing families to confidently continue their livelihoods at sea, improve their lives, and look towards a brighter future.
Recently, through the Da Nang City Children's Protection Fund, the "Casting the Net of Dreams" scholarship for 2025 was awarded to 16 students from disadvantaged fishing families in the city. These are all students who received the scholarship for the first time in 2024 and will continue to receive support this year.
Mr. Ngo Anh Tuan, Head of the Social Welfare Department (Department of Health ), said that through monitoring, all students have maintained good academic performance, with no cases of dropping out midway. Each year, the scholarship provides 6 million VND to support students in purchasing school supplies, clothing, living expenses, and nutrition. The program clearly demonstrates its humanitarian nature, contributing to helping students have the opportunity to excel in their studies, while also supporting the city's social welfare goals. The scholarship is expected to be provided for 3 years, after which relevant units will summarize, evaluate, and consider the possibility of further extension in the future.
