In Can Tho , the film is showing at Lotte Cinema and CGV theaters.
Detective Kien and Hai Man work together to solve the case.
Set in 19th century Vietnam, Hai Man (Dinh Ngoc Diep) returns to her village after many years of being married far away when Nga (Minh Anh), her niece whom she loves like her own daughter, mysteriously disappears. While the whole village believes that she was taken away by a ghost, Hai Man still believes that Nga is still alive and asks for help from detective Kien (Quoc Huy). When starting the investigation, the police officer cannot help but have a headache because the case has too many complicated and overlapping details. Not to mention, he also has to face a demonic force called the ghost, and even his life is threatened. In the end, detective Kien and Hai Man not only clarify Nga's disappearance but also investigate a major case from many years ago...
With the “case within a case” narrative, the audience follows the two main characters as they search for Nga’s whereabouts and find answers to a local tragedy 30 years ago. The two cases have a common clue: they are surrounded by the legend of ghosts, and when the missing people are found, they are only headless bodies. The director and screenwriter present many clues and a group of suspects, each of whom has a motive for the crime, making the audience have a headache along with the detective. The attractive detective color combined with a bit of horror from the ghost images makes the film even more thrilling and suspenseful. Interspersed are some light-hearted humorous details to reduce the tension for the audience.
However, due to the presentation of too many issues and lengthy explanations, the first half of the film is quite slow. Only in the second half of the film, when the plot is accelerated, the clues are gathered together and gradually clarified, along with unexpected twists, does the film become truly engaging. The end of Nga's case is also the time when Detective Kien discovers the truth about the ghost, about the big case 30 years ago.
In addition to the attractive script, the film also satisfies viewers with scenes of majestic and vast nature. The film's color is beautiful and luxurious, full of cinematic quality. The setting and costumes are meticulously invested in and on a large scale. The special effects in the horror scenes are vividly performed. The fighting scenes with martial arts moves are beautiful and powerful. The sound and music are suitable, increasing the feeling in the scary or action scenes. However, the actors are only average, no one shines. Viewers have a good impression of the character Mrs. Vuong played by artist My Uyen and the maid played by Tin Nguyen. One is scheming and cunning, the other is honest and naive, creating interesting moments for the film.
Ending the mysterious case, Detective Kien and his colleagues started a new case, opening up the opportunity to make a sequel to the series of historical crime-solving films of Vietnamese cinema.
