Gratitude
Arriving at the Ton Duc Thang Memorial Area on a clear morning, I saw a bustling crowd under the cool shade of the trees. According to the Management Board of the Ton Duc Thang Memorial Area, in recent days, many youth union members and young people have come to offer incense at the temple dedicated to President Ton Duc Thang and clean up the area to express their sincere gratitude and respect to this outstanding son of An Giang province.
Huynh Huu Thanh, Secretary of the Youth Union of the Provincial Sports Training, Coaching and Competition Center, shared: “I have visited the Ton Duc Thang Memorial Area many times and always feel moved and proud. Looking at the relics left behind by Uncle Ton, everyone can feel his simplicity and patriotism. Every story about Uncle Ton is a valuable lesson for us to follow, striving to contribute to our homeland.” Mr. Thanh said he will strive to contribute to high-performance sports in An Giang. At the same time, he will spread the lessons of patriotism, simplicity, and the spirit of dedication of Uncle Ton to union members and young people, contributing to the development of the homeland and the country in this era of national progress.

Many visitors came to offer incense and learn about President Ton Duc Thang's life and career to better understand him. Inside the temple dedicated to President Ton Duc Thang, amidst the swirling incense smoke, everyone stood solemnly, remembering the immense contributions of the Ba Son shipyard worker and the heroic sailor who hoisted the red flag on the battleship France years ago. In that sacred moment, each person cherished even more the value of peace , independence, and freedom for the nation, and absorbed more deeply the lesson of patriotism taught by President Ton Duc Thang.
Mr. Ton Duc Thai, grandson of Mr. Ton Duc Nhung (Uncle Ton's younger brother), is always moved when he talks about Uncle Ton. "Seeing everyone come to offer incense and commemorate Uncle Ton's contributions, I feel proud of my respected grandfather. This is not just my pride, but the pride of all the people of My Hoa Hung, the birthplace of this outstanding son," Mr. Ton Duc Thai shared.
Actively build
Besides pride, Mr. Ton Duc Thai expressed his excitement about the changes in his hometown of My Hoa Hung. For him, who has dedicated his entire life to this peaceful island, the positive changes today are the "sweet fruits" of the attention of all levels and sectors, and the efforts of each person in My Hoa Hung in the process of building their homeland. "My Hoa Hung used to be separated by rivers and ferries, making life difficult for the people. Now, essential needs such as electricity, roads, schools, and health stations are all available. People no longer have to worry about transportation because the roads are spacious and well-paved. Children can safely go to school. Young people have better access to jobs, and their lives are increasingly improving," Mr. Thai said.
Overcoming unique geographical challenges, My Hoa Hung commune has strived for steady development, achieving the new rural standard in 2015 and becoming an advanced new rural commune in 2020. In June 2025, My Hoa Hung commune was recognized by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee as a model new rural commune in the production sector in 2024.

The socio-economic development process has yielded positive results, resulting in a more attractive rural landscape. During the 2020-2025 period, the Party Committee and People's Committee of My Hoa Hung commune actively promoted agricultural production. Specifically, the commune implemented a crop restructuring program covering over 359 hectares; applied high technology to production, improving the quality of operations of cooperatives and agricultural associations in the area; and improved people's lives, with an average income of 80.04 million VND per person per year...
In particular, My Hoa Hung is increasingly attracting tourists, with over 120,000 visitors coming to visit the Ton Duc Thang Memorial Area and experience eco-tourism and homestay services characteristic of the Mekong Delta's riverine culture. Visiting My Hoa Hung, you'll see modern infrastructure and flower-lined roads, reflecting the renewed spirit of this island region.
Building on the heroic traditions of the locality, the Party Committee and government of My Hoa Hung commune continue to improve leadership capacity and management efficiency, promoting unity and democracy to maximize the potential and advantages of the locality. At the same time, they are gradually improving transportation infrastructure, developing high-tech agriculture linked with ecotourism to improve the lives of the people, and building the homeland of President Ton Duc Thang into an increasingly civilized and modern place.
