Growing green lim mushrooms is not a simple task, requiring meticulousness and a deep understanding of the growth cycle of this mushroom. According to Mr. Be Van Sau, Director of the Son Dong Edible Mushroom and Medicinal Mushroom Production Cooperative, growing green lim mushrooms is relatively difficult, so few households participate. Growers need to understand the growth and development cycle of mushrooms, regularly clean the camp, check for pathogens, etc.

Green lim mushrooms can be grown in camps or under natural forest canopies, however, the model under the forest canopy is considered superior thanks to its ability to take advantage of the natural environment. Mushrooms grown under the forest canopy have a survival rate of 86%, do not require care and the harvest cycle is longer. After about 1 to 1.5 months, the mushrooms begin to be harvested, with each ton of raw materials producing about 21 kg of dried mushrooms, the selling price ranges from 700 thousand to 1 million VND/kg, bringing in a profit of 300-400 thousand VND/kg after deducting costs.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, a mushroom grower in An Lac commune, shared: Just need to follow the right techniques such as soil treatment, shed building, watering, monitoring temperature and adjusting humidity regularly, the plant will grow well. Not only that, the technique of growing green lim mushrooms requires an initial investment of time and effort, but once mastered, this is a model that brings high and stable economic efficiency.

Green lim mushroom has long been known as a "miracle drug" in folk medicine. Modern research shows that the mushroom contains a high polysaccharide content, reaching about 1.42%, equivalent to green lim mushroom growing naturally in the forest. Ms. Pham Thi Thu, Head of the Science and Technology Application Project in Son Dong, affirmed: "The polysaccharide content of cultivated green lim mushroom is high, it is completely possible to grow it in camps and develop commercial products".

Green lim mushroom has many uses, from supporting the immune system, improving liver function, anti-oxidation to supporting the treatment of some chronic diseases. These properties make green lim mushroom an ideal ingredient for products such as tea bags, instant tea, green lim mushroom wine and functional foods. The diversity in application not only helps to increase economic value but also expands the consumer market, from individual consumers to modern retail chains.

Son Dong district has many successful models of growing green lim mushrooms, bringing stable income to the people. A typical example is the Son Dong Cooperative for producing edible and medicinal mushrooms, run by Mr. Be Van Sau. Since 2013, Mr. Sau started growing green lim mushrooms and by 2019, thanks to the science and technology support project, he expanded the scale to 10,000 bags of mushrooms per year, of which 5,000 bags were grown in the camp and 5,000 under the forest canopy. Each year, Mr. Sau's cooperative earns more than 300 million VND with 800 kg of fresh mushrooms, equivalent to more than 300 kg of dried mushrooms.

Another story is about Ms. Chu Thi Vui, a Nung ethnic, in Cam Dan commune. From a poor householder, Ms. Vui was supported by the Women's Union of the commune to borrow 100 million VND to grow green lim mushrooms under the forest canopy. Thanks to applying techniques and diligence, her family now earns 100-200 million VND/year, while also creating jobs for two other female members. Ms. Vui shared: "Thanks to growing green lim mushrooms, I am more confident, my family's life no longer depends only on my husband's income but also helps other women in the village."

To increase economic value, cooperatives and households in Son Dong have invested in processing and diversifying products from green lim mushrooms. Thao Moc Linh Agricultural Service Cooperative, Tay Yen Tu town has developed products such as dried green lim mushrooms, green lim mushroom wine and green lim mushroom tea... meeting 3-star OCOP standards. Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, director of the cooperative, said: "Thanks to the OCOP certification, our products have been promoted at many tourist destinations and major cities and provinces such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, creating a foothold in the market".

Green lim mushroom in Son Dong district is not only a crop with high economic value but also a symbol of innovation in production thinking and protection of natural resources. The success stories of Mr. Be Van Sau, Ms. Chu Thi Vui, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh and the support from the authorities have affirmed the potential of green lim mushroom. Notably, with clear orientation and companionship of all parties, the green lim mushroom growing model is expected to continue to develop and expand, bringing the Son Dong lim mushroom brand to the domestic and international markets, while contributing to improving the lives of people in the highlands.
