This morning (October 12), Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport held a ceremony to announce the establishment of the High-Speed Railway Institute. Up to this point, this is the first university in the transport sector to establish the High-Speed Railway Institute.
The High-speed Railway Institute is responsible for training in four main areas: high-speed railway construction techniques, high-speed railway mechanics, high-speed railway automatic control and signal information techniques, and high-speed railway transport operations. With a team of lecturers who are experts with rich domestic and international practical experience, the institute has a strategy to create a service chain for the development of the current high-speed railway industry.
Establishment of High-speed Railway Institute: Investing 50,000 m2 of land for research and training
Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Phuong, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, acknowledged: "A modern and safe transport system is the foundation of a prosperous nation. In Conclusion No. 49-KL/TW dated February 28, 2023 on the orientation of railway transport development to 2030, with a vision to 2045, the Politburo affirmed that the North-South high-speed railway is the 'backbone' axis."
According to Associate Professor Phuong, the Party Central Committee has recently agreed on the investment policy for the entire North-South 350km/h high-speed railway project to be submitted to the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly for consideration and decision. This project is not only part of the country's transport development strategy but also a strong driving force for a comprehensive transformation in the infrastructure system. This is an opportunity for us to apply the most advanced technologies in practice, in order to catch up with modern transport trends.

As one of the major universities training in transportation, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Phuong said: "Since 2008, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport has started training in metro railways. Since 2023, the school's leaders have directly sent many delegations to Japan, Korea, China and Europe to learn about high-speed railways. And this is the most ripe time for the school to start training in high-speed railways."
The President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport affirmed that the establishment of the High-Speed Railway Institute will undertake the responsibility of training high-quality human resources for the transport sector and contribute to the development of the country. "The High-Speed Railway Institute will be a place to nurture talents, people who will shoulder the responsibility of developing modern transport, helping Vietnam make strong progress on the path of integration and development," Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Phuong expressed his confidence.
Also in the program, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tien Thuy, Acting Chairman of the University Council of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, presented a symbolic 5-hectare land at the Dong Nai Branch to the High-Speed Railway Institute for exploitation and use, serving research and training purposes.
