Teacher uses Bac Bling video and T'rung instrument to teach about gender equality

Teachers and audiences present at the practical competition of the City-level Excellent Preschool Teacher Competition on March 26 were all impressed with the performance of Mr. Thai Hong Duy, a teacher at the 19/5 City Kindergarten (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City). Drawn on the topic of "gender equality", Mr. Duy's task was to build educational activities suitable for children of the kindergarten age (5-6 years old). He had 2 days to prepare before the official competition.

Teacher Duy took his practical exam at Thanh Pho Kindergarten (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City). To get acquainted with children at other schools, the male kindergarten teacher had about a few dozen minutes each session and was absolutely not allowed to teach a trial lesson or teach in advance.

At the beginning of the lesson, Mr. Duy showed the children videos of musicians performing a piece of the song "One Round of Vietnam" and a music video of dancers performing the song "Bac Bling" by Hoa Minzy, which is very popular among young people today. From there, the preschool teacher led to the message that musicians and dancers include both male and female.

Not only that, wearing the costumes of the Central Highlands people, both teacher Thai Hong Duy and the children in the kindergarten class danced together to the song "Dance with the Central Highlands friends". At the same time, in his educational activities, the male kindergarten teacher also taught the children to play the T'rung. Both the teacher and the children in the class performed a piece with the T'rung in the classroom. The teacher told the students: "I am a man, and I can dance, sing, and play musical instruments. All boys and all girls, you can also dance, sing, and be musicians or dancers, if you love this job and are passionate about it".

Through music and art, teacher Thai Hong Duy skillfully conveys the message of gender equality to children.

Notably, in his educational activities, the preschool teacher also shared with the children about his job - a preschool teacher - a job that has always been stereotyped as only for women and not for men.

"You see, in your class, you learn with female teachers. And now, you learn with Mr. Duy. So, being a preschool teacher is not just for women, men can absolutely become dedicated preschool teachers. Obviously, regardless of gender, we can all do the job we love, we have strengths, talents, we want to pursue it when we grow up. Girls can also be construction engineers, mechanical engineers, scientific researchers. Boys can also be chefs, makeup artists, tailors, fashion designers... That is gender equality," the preschool teacher concluded the lesson.

Teacher Thai Hong Duy shared more with Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter: "One of my strengths is organizing music and art education activities. I think about what I have to do so that my educational activities can connect and link between art activities while still conveying gender equality content to children in the most understandable, vivid and attractive way. Preschool children learn through play, receiving useful and interesting things through music and art activities such as MV Bac Bling , T'rung instrument, play corners... will be more effective. I think that after today's lesson, the children have all retained a lot of useful knowledge."

In the children's play area at the 19/5 City Kindergarten, the kindergarten teacher also educates children about gender equality. The profession of chef and bartender is not only for women.

Playground helps improve expertise, professionalism, and child care

The city-level competition for excellent preschool teachers opened on February 27 with 99 outstanding teachers from across the city taking part in two parts: theory and practice.

In the practical exam, teachers will organize an educational activity suitable for children of different ages with one of the five specialized topics in the Preschool Education Program of the Ministry of Education and Training, which are: Traffic safety; Human rights, focusing on children's rights; Multicultural music education; Gender equality; Prevention of school violence.

Ms. Le Thuy My Chau, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the competition for excellent preschool teachers is an opportunity for preschool teachers to demonstrate their talent, creativity and dedication in nurturing, caring for and educating children. From there, the Department builds a training plan to improve the professional qualifications and skills of teachers, meeting the requirements of educational innovation.

In the 2024-2025 school year, 10,180 preschool teachers participated in the competition from the grassroots level. 99 most outstanding teachers participated in the city-level competition for excellent preschool teachers.

Along with the competition for public sector teachers, from the 2023-2024 school year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will also organize a city-level competition for teachers of independent and private preschools, attracting many talented teachers to participate.
