Tran Lan Trinh, a student in class 9A2 at Tran Hung Dao Secondary School (Quang Yen ward), is one of the exemplary students who overcame difficulties to excel in their studies. Orphaned at a young age, and with her mother having remarried, Trinh lives with her grandmother in challenging circumstances. Despite lacking parental care, she has always strived to succeed through her own willpower and determination.

For many years, Tran Lan Trinh has consistently achieved the title of all-around excellent student. She also won first prize in the provincial swimming competition; a Bronze Medal in the 2nd Ha Long Specialized Subjects Olympic Competition in 2025; and second prize in the provincial History-Geography competition for junior high school students in the 2025-2026 school year. These achievements are proof of her spirit of overcoming difficulties and her aspiration to excel through education. Knowing her circumstances, the Ha Long Humanitarian Charity Club has sponsored Tran Lan Trinh with 12 million VND per year until she completes high school.
Sharing her journey, Tran Lan Trinh emotionally stated: "I always tell myself that no matter how difficult things get, I must keep trying to become a useful member of society. I am very grateful to my grandmother for her protection over the years, and to my teachers and the school for always accompanying, encouraging, and supporting me in my studies."
The story of Tran Lan Trinh's perseverance demonstrates the practical significance of working together to care for disadvantaged students, contributing to motivating them to confidently move forward on their educational journey. Currently, the province has over 4,200 children with special circumstances; and more than 4,500 children at risk of falling into special circumstances. Among them, many orphans face difficulties with housing, care, education, healthcare, and social integration. These are groups that urgently need the attention of the State as well as the collective support from the community.
In recent times, efforts to mobilize social resources to care for children with special circumstances, orphaned and disabled students, and disadvantaged students have been implemented comprehensively and effectively. The Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Disadvantaged Children plays a core role in connecting and mobilizing support resources. In the 2025-2026 school year, the Association honored 62 outstanding orphaned and disabled students who overcame difficulties and excelled in their studies. This activity not only aimed to encourage and motivate the children but also spread a humane message about sharing and the community's responsibility towards vulnerable individuals.

According to Mr. Lanh The Vinh, Chairman of the Association for the Support of People with Disabilities and Disadvantaged Children in the province, the Association collaborates with departments, agencies, and localities to launch the "Joining Hands for People with Disabilities and Disadvantaged Children" program on the occasion of Vietnam's Disabled Persons Day on April 18th every year. In 2026 alone, the program, with the message "Love Spreads - Lighting Up Hope," mobilized over 3.8 billion VND from organizations, individuals, and philanthropists inside and outside the province to support vulnerable people, including orphaned and disabled children in difficult circumstances. This funding is used to award scholarships, support education, provide transportation, school supplies, and create conditions for them to continue attending school and nurture their dreams for the future.
In response to the 2026 Action Month for Children, the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Disadvantaged Children organized sponsorship, gift-giving, awards, and the distribution of bicycles and wheelchairs to 194 orphaned, disabled, and disadvantaged students in the province, with a total value of 586 million VND. All funding was raised through social contributions.
In addition, the Provincial Red Cross Society has actively implemented many practical activities to care for disadvantaged children. Responding to the 2026 Action Month for Children, the Society directed its grassroots branches to coordinate with local Party committees, authorities, and organizations to mobilize resources to support vulnerable children. Many meaningful activities have been organized by the Provincial Red Cross Society, such as donating gifts to social assistance facilities; coordinating the opening of 8 free swimming classes for disadvantaged students; and mobilizing charitable clubs to donate gifts to nearly 200 students in mountainous areas and child patients receiving treatment at medical facilities in the province...
With the province's attention and the community's spirit of sharing, the work of caring for disadvantaged students in the province is becoming increasingly thorough, contributing to ensuring equity in education , creating opportunities for all students to study and develop, and ensuring that no one is left behind on the journey to the future.
