According to Bu Dop District Medical Center, about 2 months before being hospitalized, Mr. LVX was bitten by a neighbor's dog but did not receive anti-rabies serum or vaccine.
On April 28, Mr. X. showed symptoms of fear of water, light, withdrawal and difficulty breathing. Seeing that his condition was getting worse, on April 29, his family took Mr. X. to Bu Dop District Health Center and he was immediately transferred to Binh Phuoc General Hospital. Immediately after the incident, Bu Dop District Health Center mobilized those taking care of the patient to get vaccinated against rabies, and at the same time directed Thanh Hoa Commune Health Station to advise the Commune People's Committee to vaccinate dogs and cats in the area.
On the same day, May 15, speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Dr. Pham Hoang Xuan, Deputy Director of the Center for Disease Control of Binh Phuoc province, said that since the beginning of 2023, the province has recorded 2 cases of death due to rabid dog bites. Previously, 1 case was also recorded in Dong Phu district.
Also according to Dr. Xuan, after the deaths of victims bitten by rabid dogs were recorded, the health sector has stepped up propaganda to encourage people to get vaccinated against rabies as soon as possible when bitten by a rabid dog.
Recently, the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province also issued a document requesting the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to direct the provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to coordinate and guide the district-level People's Committees and related professional agencies and units to implement rabies prevention measures in the province; organize rabies vaccination for dogs and cats, ensuring a vaccination rate of over 70% of the total herd in the period of 2023 - 2025 and over 80% in the period of 2026 - 2030.
To ensure access to rabies vaccines for humans, the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province requires disseminating the addresses of rabies vaccination sites and communicating instructions for people bitten by dogs and cats to immediately go to medical facilities for timely preventive treatment.
