More opportunities to study abroad in the US, Australia, Europe for free and receive subsidies

Many scholarships from the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and educational and diplomatic agencies of various countries are currently open for applications until April or May, creating conditions for Vietnamese people to study abroad for free and receive additional subsidies.

Full scholarships for Vietnamese

The Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Education and Training) recently posted a notice to recruit Vietnamese students to study in some European countries under the agreement scholarship program in 2025. Accordingly, the Romanian Government will grant 20 scholarships for undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs (training from 2-4 years depending on the program); 1 scholarship for a specialized internship or research for 9 months. For the degree program, if candidates do not know Romanian, they will be arranged to study a preparatory year before entering the major.

Agreement scholarships are scholarships awarded according to cooperation agreements and treaties signed between the Vietnamese Government and countries, territories or international organizations. With agreement scholarships, the recipient side waives tuition fees, provides monthly living expenses and accommodation. The Vietnamese side considers providing round-trip airfare, travel expenses, passport and visa fees, health insurance and subsistence allowance according to current regulations (if necessary).

The Romania - Vietnam Agreement Scholarship prioritizes candidates who are working in state agencies or educational institutions; have won international, regional, national awards or are in priority according to university admission regulations; are applying for postgraduate degrees or key training programs; have good academic and training achievements, research achievements; are subject to training according to projects approved by the Prime Minister.

Application deadline is May 1.

Meanwhile, the Czech Government offers 60 months of internship and research scholarships (each program lasts 2-10 months), along with 2 internship scholarships for Slavic languages ​​and cultures (3-4 weeks). Applicants are required to have a Czech university or postgraduate degree with the language of instruction in the course being Czech, and must not have applied for any other scholarship program managed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training.

Meanwhile, the Hungarian Embassy in Vietnam has announced the recruitment of Momentum MSCA Scholarships for postdoctoral candidates, co-funded by the European Union and the Office of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The scholarship period lasts from 1-3 years with a total of 15 places, requiring candidates to have a doctoral degree. The application deadline is May 31.

In Australia, in addition to the Australian Government Scholarships (AAS), this year the country also launched the Mekong-Australia Partnership Scholarship (MAP) program. Both scholarships are for certain countries, including Vietnam, and will fully fund candidates to study for a master's degree in a number of areas that Vietnam prioritizes for development such as agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, climate change, environment, capacity, information technology, digital transformation, education, etc.

AAS gives priority to applicants with disabilities or living in disadvantaged rural areas, while MAP encourages applicants who are women or have disabilities. Applicants will be assessed on a range of factors including professional and personal qualities, academic ability, and the potential to contribute to addressing current and future challenges in the Mekong sub-region (MAP scholarships), or the potential to make a positive impact on challenges in Vietnam, as well as promoting Vietnam-Australia relations (AAS scholarships).

The application process and online portal for the MAP scholarship are similar to the AAS scholarship, and both programs will close on April 30.

Another English-speaking country, the United States, is also opening applications for the Fulbright Research Scholarship (VSR) program. The scholarship has 5 full scholarships for Vietnamese citizens who are currently doctoral students in science and technology at Vietnamese universities, creating opportunities for candidates to study at US universities for 6-10 months in 2026-2027. This is a non-degree program.

According to information from the US Embassy, ​​applicants must prepare an application form, 3 letters of recommendation, degrees and transcripts (including notarized English translations), international English certificates or invitation letters from US schools stating that English scores are not required, essays, resumes, and evidence of being enrolled in a doctoral program awarded by a school in Vietnam. The deadline for submitting applications is May 15.

Many opportunities to study abroad in Asia

In addition to European countries, the International Cooperation Department also recruits students to study in some Asian countries under the agreement scholarship program. Specifically, the Armenian Government offers a total of 5 scholarships for undergraduate, master's, doctoral and internship programs applicable to all majors, lasting from 3 months to 4 years depending on the program. The training language is Armenian or Russian and candidates are arranged to study 1 year of the language if they do not know how to speak the required language.

Applications must be submitted before May 6, according to the Department of International Cooperation.

Similarly, the Government of Kazakhstan offers 3 scholarships for university education, lasting 4-5 years of study and not including 1 year of preparatory Russian language study. To apply, candidates must be students who have participated in and won prizes in international and regional Olympic competitions; national excellent student selection competitions; national science and technology competitions, with academic results up to the end of semester 1 of the 2024-2025 school year of 7 or higher.

Meanwhile, applicants must be students in their first year at universities in Vietnam (full-time) and have a GPA of 7 or higher for the first semester of their first year of university and 3 years of high school. The deadline for submitting applications is before April 25.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam informed that the country is offering many scholarships for Vietnamese people to study at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in various majors (except for medicine, pharmacy, fashion, law and 5-year integrated programs) at schools in India. These scholarships are under the framework of the Indian Council for Cultural Exchange (ICCR) scholarship program, including the GSS, MGC and CEP programs.

In addition, ICCR also has the Lata Mangeshkar Dance and Music Scholarship program for courses specializing in Indian culture such as dance, music, theater, performing arts, sculpture, language, Indian cuisine...

The full scholarship covers visa application fees, tuition fees, living expenses, dormitory accommodation, living allowance and return economy class airfare. Interested candidates can apply online by April 30 and submit a complete hard copy by May 6.

In addition to post-secondary education, candidates who are currently secondary school students can also study abroad in Singapore for free at the high school level under the ASEAN Scholarship program from the Singapore Ministry of Education. The program is for candidates who are studying in grades 8, 9, 10 in Vietnam, have good academic results, good English proficiency and are active in extracurricular activities. The scholarship includes an annual allowance with accommodation in the dormitory, an initial allowance when first arriving in Singapore, a return economy class airfare, tuition fees, GCE O-Level, A-Level examination fees, medical care and accident insurance.

The online application deadline is April 28. Qualified candidates will continue to take the exam in Da Nang, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, then attend the interview round before receiving the official results expected in September. The total study period in Singapore is 4 years.
