(HG) - Mr. Nguyen Van Kiet, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Chau Thanh district, reported that a serious landslide occurred again on the canal bank in the district in the early morning of May 25th.
The landslide severed the concrete road on the morning of May 25th.
The landslide occurred at 3:00 AM at the home of Ms. Ngo Thi Sau, on Mai Dam canal, Phu Loi hamlet, Phu Huu commune. The landslide spanned over 30 meters in length, extending 9 meters inland, resulting in the loss of over 270 square meters of land and the destruction of a 2-meter-wide concrete road. Since the beginning of the year, Chau Thanh district has experienced 23 canal bank landslides, with a total length exceeding 480 meters; a land loss of over 2,510 square meters; and estimated damages of nearly 1.1 billion VND.
Mr. Nguyen Van Kiet, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Chau Thanh District, said that fortunately, the recent landslides did not cause any casualties. Immediately after the incident occurred, the District Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Command, in coordination with the local authorities, was present at the scene, mobilizing local forces to erect warning signs to stop all traffic to avoid further damage, and simultaneously assisting people in overcoming the consequences of the landslides.
