Predicting the 2024 university entrance exam cutoff scores for the Social Sciences group.
From July 18th to 5 PM on July 30th, candidates nationwide will officially register their university admission preferences. This is a tense period for candidates because, according to predictions, the 2024 university admission scores for many social science majors, which are already high this year, may be even higher than in 2023.
Regarding predictions for university entrance exam scores in 2024 for the Social Sciences field, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, shared with a reporter from Dan Viet newspaper that in 2024, the average scores for all subjects in the high school graduation exam will be slightly higher than in 2023.
For example, the average score for Literature is 7.23, the average score for Mathematics is 6.45, and the average score for Foreign Language is 5.51 (compared to 6.86, 6.25, and 5.45 in 2023). The average scores for History and Geography both showed an upward trend compared to 2023, ranging from 0.5 to 1 point. Only the average score for Civic Education decreased slightly, from 8.29 to 8.16.

However, this year, the total enrollment quota for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities increased by 115% compared to 2023. Furthermore, for some majors with high social demand such as Journalism, Psychology, International Studies, Hotel Management, and Tourism and Travel Service Management, the university allocated quotas exceeding 130% of the 2023 figure. In addition, out of the six admission methods, the university allocated over 50% to the high school graduation exam review method.
Therefore, the cut-off scores for the university's programs will basically remain stable and may increase slightly compared to 2023."
In 2023, the majors with the highest entrance exam scores at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were Journalism, Oriental Studies, Korean Studies, Public Relations, Psychology... These majors had entrance exam scores in Group C above 28 points, and in some years even reached nearly 30 points.
Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong also noted: "According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates can register an unlimited number of preferences, and universities only consider the candidates' scores. This means that candidates should arrange their preferences on the Ministry's admissions portal in order of their passion and interest in the majors and universities. Choose your first preference as the major you like the most. If you fail to get into your first preference, universities will still consider your subsequent preferences fairly, along with all other candidates with the same score (even if the order of preferences is different)."
Furthermore, one of the advantages for students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is the ability to study two programs simultaneously, graduating with two official university degrees after approximately five years of study. Students can enroll in any of the 26 undergraduate programs offered by the university, after completing at least two semesters of the first program and achieving a GPA of at least "good". This is also a practical approach for students to achieve their desired field of study even if their exam scores do not meet the entrance requirements at the time of admission.
The cut-off scores for many social science majors increased by 1-2 points.
Sharing his predictions for the 2024 university entrance exam cutoff scores in the Social Sciences field, Mr. Trinh Huu Chung, Vice Rector of Gia Dinh University, said: "More than 670,000 out of approximately one million candidates registering for the 2024 high school graduation exam chose the Social Sciences exam, accounting for 63%, the highest rate in the past 7 years. This shows that universities offering and admitting students to majors in the Social Sciences field will have many opportunities to recruit students."
The expected admission scores for Social Sciences majors in 2024 will increase, depending on the specific major and the competition ratio at each university. Specifically at Gia Dinh University, we are considering admissions to Social Sciences majors such as Law, Economic Law, Oriental Studies, English Language, Public Relations, Multimedia Communication, and Communication Technology. These scores are expected to increase by 1-2 points compared to 2023 (admission based on high school transcripts: 15.5-17 points, admission based on high school exam results: 15-16 points), depending on the admission method used this year.

Dr. Le Thi Thuy Vinh, Faculty of Literature, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2, assessed: "Regarding exam combinations that include Literature, I think the cut-off scores will increase slightly by 0.5 to 1 point. This is because this year's Literature exam was quite manageable for candidates, without many surprising elements."
For top-tier universities, the cut-off scores for khối C and khối D will be 0.5 to 1 point higher than last year. For mid-tier universities, the scores will be the same or only slightly higher than last year, fluctuating around 1 point. I think the cut-off scores for lower-tier universities will remain the same.
For teacher training colleges, the scores for subjects in blocks C and D will remain as high as or higher than last year, with an expected score of around 8.5-9 per subject for candidates to have a chance of admission.
From July 18th, candidates can register their college application preferences on the Ministry's common system and can adjust their preferences an unlimited number of times until 5 PM on July 30th.
From July 31st to 5 PM on August 6th, candidates can submit their application fees online.
No later than July 21st, the Ministry of Education and Training will announce the minimum quality assurance threshold (cut-off score) for health and education majors, and then process the applications of candidates from August 13th to 5 PM on August 17th.
The cut-off scores will be announced before 5 PM on August 19th.
Before 5 PM on August 19th, schools must announce the cutoff scores and notify candidates who have been admitted in the first round.
By 5 PM on August 27th, candidates had completed the first round of online enrollment confirmation on the system.
Starting from August 28th, educational institutions will announce supplementary enrollment rounds.
From September to December, training institutions conduct subsequent admission rounds, update the list of admitted candidates, and enroll them according to regulations.
The 2024 high school graduation exam will be held from June 27-28. Exam results are expected to be announced from 8:00 AM on July 17. The deadline for considering and certifying high school graduation for students is July 19.
